Summary of Position:

 

Relief International is seeking a highly skilled and motivated National Project Manager to lead the implementation of an integrated project in North Darfur, Sudan, funded by the Sudan Humanitarian Fund (SHF). The project encompasses Food Security and Livelihoods (FSL) with Early Recovery Market Systems (ERMS) components, Protection and Social Cohesion, and Shelter & Non-Food Items (NFI) interventions. The National Project Manager will oversee all aspects of project delivery, ensuring timely, high-quality implementation in line with donor requirements, organizational standards, and the needs of affected communities. This position reports directly to the SHF Program Manager and requires a proactive leader with strong coordination, technical, and management skills.



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

Project Management and Implementation

 

  • Lead the planning, execution, and monitoring of the integrated FSL (with ERMS components), Protection/Social Cohesion, and Shelter & NFI project in North Darfur.
  • Develop and manage detailed work plans, ensuring activities are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
  • Oversee the integration of ERMS approaches into FSL programming to promote sustainable livelihoods and market recovery.
  • Ensure protection mainstreaming and social cohesion principles are embedded across all project components.

 

Team Leadership and Capacity Building

 

  • Supervise and mentor project staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team environment.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to staff and local partners on FSL, ERMS, protection, social cohesion, and shelter/NFI programming.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations and support professional development of team members.

 

Coordination and Stakeholder Engagement

 

  • Liaise with local authorities, community leaders, and other humanitarian actors to ensure effective collaboration and avoid duplication of efforts.
  • Represent Relief International in cluster meetings, coordination forums, and donor engagements as required.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with beneficiaries, ensuring their voices shape project design and implementation.

 

Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL)

 

  • Work closely with the MEAL team to track project progress, collect data, and ensure compliance with SHF indicators and targets.
  • Prepare and submit high-quality narrative and financial reports to the SHF Program Manager and donor as per agreed timelines.
  • Promote accountability to affected populations through feedback mechanisms and participatory approaches.

 

Financial and Resource Management

 

  • Manage project budgets in coordination with the finance team, ensuring cost-effectiveness and adherence to SHF funding guidelines.
  • Oversee procurement, logistics, and distribution of shelter materials, NFIs, and other project resources in line with RI policies.

 

Risk Management and Compliance

  • Identify and mitigate risks related to project implementation, including security, logistical, and contextual challenges in North Darfur.
  • Ensure all activities comply with Relief International policies, donor regulations, and humanitarian principles.

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Agriculture, Development Studies, Social Sciences, Humanitarian Studies, or equivalent); Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in project management within the humanitarian or development sector, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
  • Proven expertise in managing integrated programs, particularly in FSL (including ERMS), protection/social cohesion, and shelter/NFI sectors.
  • Strong understanding of the humanitarian context in Sudan, particularly North Darfur, and experience working in conflict-affected areas.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, teams, and donor-funded projects (experience with SHF or similar funding mechanisms is an asset).
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with fluency in English and Arabic (written and spoken).
  • Ability to work under pressure, adapt to challenging environments, and deliver results in a fast-paced setting.
