 Background:

Implement gynecological and obstetrician procedures, performing any other prior treatment required, during or immediately after a woman has given birth in order to improve women’s reproductive health and to reduce pregnancy, delivery and neonatology risks. This will be done in accordance with MSF policies, protocols and universal hygiene standards and in multidisciplinary collaboration with other medical doctors and midwife services.



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

Accountabilities

  • Provide health care related to gynecology and obstetrics to patients, including prevention, diagnosis and treatment. 
  • Ensure the implementation of MSF clinical policies, tools, guidelines and protocols related to gynecology and obstetrics in order to minimize clinical risk and to extend best reproductive practices. 
  • In collaboration with other medical colleagues, carry out the collection of quantitative gynecological data and ensure exhaustive use of management tools in order to improve gynecological results and to share knowledge among other field specialists. 
  • Plan and supervise the HR associated processes (recruitment, training, performance evaluation, development and internal/external communication) of the gynecological staff in order to ensure both an efficient sizing and the amount of knowledge required, to improve people’s capabilities and their active participation in influencing the targeted population using preventive practices. This will be done in close coordination with the HR department. 
  • Supervise the maintenance and running of the gynecological equipment and drug consumption, preparing new orders when required and ensuring its rational use as well as that pharmacy stock levels are permanently updated and available. This will be done in cooperation with the pharmacist and logistic staff and the management.

MSF Section/Context Specific Accountabilities

  • To perform both emergency and planned obstetrics-gynecological surgeries, manage obstetric complications (such as instrumental deliveries), manage post-operative follow-up, and train and support both surgical and midwifery staff.
  • Ensures the application of MSF protocols (antibiotic therapy, dressing protocols, etc.) and rational medicine use.
  • Follows up patients hospitalized in associated departments (obstetrics-gynecology) in collaboration with the healthcare team.
  • Ensure proper and accurate documentation of patient management in the patient files.
  • Conduct routine ward rounds in postnatal, obstetrics, and gynecological wards, including capacity building for maternity staff.
  • Support strengthening the functionality of postnatal wards, obstetrics, and gynecological wards and linkages with other units in the hospitals.
  • Perform on-call duties to respond to obstetric emergencies.
  • Build the capacity of medical officers, nurses, midwives, General practitioner and other health workers in essential and emergency obstetric and newborn care through on-the-job coaching, mentoring, and supportive supervision.
  • Participate in maternal and neonatal mortality audits and/or meetings to improve the quality of care for the patients.
  • In collaboration with Midwife Activity Manager, Supports the implementation and organization of maternity activities in Zalingei.
  • Participate in emergency response if requested by PMR/MEDCO.
  • Participate in IPC improvement in the OT and maternities unit.
  • As part of the medical team, participate in medical orders and weekly and monthly reporting.
  • Lead maternal mortality reviews and update the mortality database; and propose and implement improvements in the care of patients based on lessons learned.
  • Support the mission in the formulation and implementation of SRH strategy.

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

EducationEssential, Gynecology specialist diploma.
Experience

Essential at least 2 years certified work experience in Gynecology

Desirable previous experience with MSF or other NGO’s in developing countries

LanguagesEssential mission language: local working language would be an asset.
KnowledgeEssential computer literacy (word, excel).
