 Background:

The key purpose of this role is to assist and support programme & fundraising media needs in Islamic Relief Sudan by developing the external profile of IR Sudan and its activities with donors, community, government departments, partners, staff and volunteers, and other stakeholders. The Media & Communication Coordinator promotes the public image of Islamic Relief Sudan by direct supervising of producing printed/visual/written media materials according to Islamic Relief Worldwide (IRW) guidelines



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement the IR Sudan media and communications strategy and plan.
  • Provide timely, relevant, and engaging information about IR Sudan to ensure that each stakeholder is aware of the organization's programmes.
  • Develop and produce high-quality communication tools and resources.
  • Develop and maintain systems and procedures that ensure consistent, high-quality internal and external communication processes, tools, and products.
  • Manage IR Sudan's social media, supervise feedback, and keep followers updated on all the organization’s activities and Sudan’s humanitarian situation.
  • Assist the line manager as necessary, including representation and attendance at meetings, minute-taking, and coordination with teams to follow up on action points identified.
  • Coordinate with local and international media outlets to ensure a good and consistent presentation of Islamic Relief.
  • Develop media products (press releases, statements) in English and Arabic, targeting local, regional, and international media.
  • Compile weekly and monthly media digests of top headlines related to the situation, including the humanitarian crisis in Sudan, and share them with line management.
  • Edit and coordinate the publication of written case studies, stories, and other information for rightsholders benefiting from the projects.
  • Liaise with colleagues internally and at the field level to get regular updates on the humanitarian situation and IR Sudan’s programmes, as well as generate project and situation reports, press and marketing material, including case studies, graphic design, and infographics.
  • Design and produce photos, infographics, share graphics, videos, and other media products.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with journalists, media consultants, and maintain a media database.
  • Work closely with specialized media agencies to execute visual or printed materials such as documentary films.
  • Travel to the field as required, possibly at short notice, for media coverage purposes, including to disaster zones.
  • Form close relations with the programme team to generate news lines, quotes, and facilitate training with staff on how to take photos, write stories, and speak with media.
  • Work with program colleagues to collect information on context and programmes in areas of operation across the country.
  • Prepare the IR Sudan annual report and any other reports as needed.
  • Conduct photography and recording of programs and activities of different projects.
  • Collect raw data (photos, video clips, case studies) for further compiling and editing.
  • Write for publication, design, and disseminate publications as required, ensuring they reach all relevant IR Sudan stakeholders.
  • Provide media and communication support to field offices, managing the design of media materials such as banners, cards, posters, brochures, booklets, signboards, reports, etc.
  • Support efforts to strengthen community engagement and effective communication with the community. Maintain regular communication and follow-up with the project and field teams.
  • Collect data and information from the field and projects and contribute to reporting and documentation.
  • Ensure data, information, pictures, etc., are archived regularly by each project/program and field office.
  • Work with the line manager and media and communication team colleagues in the IR Sudan country office and field teams to identify new stories and angles that might be of interest nationally and internationally.
  • Establish strong liaison with government ministries/authorities, media, the private sector, and other stakeholders.
  • Comply with IR Sudan policies and practices, code of conduct, health and safety, equal opportunities, and other relevant policies and procedures.
  • Perform other responsibilities as agreed with your line manager.

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in media, Communications, Journalism, public relations, or related field.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience working with INGOs/NGOs in a similar position.
  • Well experienced in using Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, and other design software.
  • Experience in producing high-quality media materials such as photos, video footage, films, reports, and case studies.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent writing and reporting skills.
  • Good time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure with limited support and minimum supervision.
  • Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in computer applications (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • English and Arabic language proficiency (speaking, reading, writing).
  • Good interpersonal skills including the ability to listen, and sensitivity to other people’s views and perspectives.
  • Ability to express clearly and concisely complex ideas and concepts. As well as having excellent presentation and training skills.
  • Ability to conceptualize and think visually.
