HR consultant – 2 month service contract

Background:

Headquartered in Washington, D.C., Invisible Children is a nonprofit organization working to end violent conflict and foster thriving ecosystems in solidarity with our world’s most isolated and unprotected communities. We partner with local visionaries in volatile conflict zones to build community-led initiatives and drive global policy change to end violent conflict and ensure communities have the safety they deserve. Our community-protection, social cohesion and conflict mitigation programs cover the cross-border region that spans DRC, CAR, South Sudan and Sudan.

Invisible Children has been working in Sudan since October 2021 through local partners implementing atrocity prevention and peacebuilding programming across the border between Sudan and the Central Africa Republic as well as between the farmers and herders in North and South Darfur. In 2024 IC expanded its program and registered with Sudan Humanitarian Aid commission to work as International organization in Sudan to 2 projects. 

Consultant profile: 

Support and assist Invisible Children Sudan Country Director and HQ team to design a new organizational structure that aligns with country law and regulation, develop, implement and administer Human Resources activities including recruitment, orientation, performance evaluation, career development and HR manual.



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

Position in the organization

This role works under the hierarchical supervision of the Sudan Country Director and technically under both regional operation director and Chief Program Officer based from HQ office Washington DC. 

This position bases in Port Sudan but also flexible depending on the situation of the selected candidate. 

Duties and responsibilities:

Review the staff contract templates and align them to ensure compliance with the Sudanese laws   
Assess IC Sudan’s payroll system, fringe calculation and provide recommendations on the best way to address the health insurance issues.   
Establish Sudan staff HR file and records both digital and papers    
Develop IC Sudan HR manual, in accordance with IC policies and Sudanese labor law. Translate the manual into Arabic    
Provide advice and recommendations to HR personnel for resolution of daily issues   

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

Qualification: 

  • MBA or advanced degree in business administration, project management, economics, or a related field is essential.
  • 5+ years of experience in HR including field. 
  • Working knowledge of Sudanese civil service organizational and HR policies, procedures and legislation preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, people-focused, proven ability to lead and motivate teams.
  • Experience in accompanying the opening of bases (new projects) & structuration of HR department. 
  • Experience in team management and capacity building of HR system.
  • Work under a lot of pressure
  • Adaptability
  • Strong initiatives and improvisation capacities. 

Time frame: the contractor shall commence the work as soon as possible, immediately upon signing contract. The work is expected to be complete within a period of 2 months as detailed in the scope of work and the detailed work plan.
