Main Purpose of Job: 

Under the guidance and supervision of the Finance Officer, the Finance Assistant will conduct documentation reviews and assist with day-to-day finance/accounting tasks. The position may require travel to the sub-field offices within Blue Nile and will have close work relationships with HR & Admin and supply chain units. 



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

Accounting & Treasury:

 

  • Review of all payment requests. Ensure completeness of payment documents and compliance with IRC and donor policies & procedures.
  • Compare supporting documents with the documentation checklist.
  • Coordinate with supply chain and Field Officer to retrieve any missing documents such as PRs, POs/contracts, certificates of completion/delivery reports, invoices, and receipts.
  • Assist in processing payment requests originating from the BN Field Office.
  • Assist/prepare and maintain cash books ensuring completeness and accuracy of data entry. Ensuring coding accuracy and appropriate authorized approvals obtained.
  • Perform posting of entries in the SUN system when required and ensure accuracy and completeness of the process.
  • Assist/prepare balance sheet reconciliation and ensure all accounts are reconciled with closing balances of the general ledger.
  • Carry out and document cash count as per IRC Policies & Procedures.
  • Review and account for procurement transactions to ensure adequate supporting documentation, accuracy of amounts, and control over payments within limits.
  • Participate in and review the monthly/annual inventory physical checks.          

 

Other

  1. Assist the Finance Officer / Manager in responding to internal and/or external audit requests
  2. Provide training to program staff on finance issues
  3. Review all Purchase Orders and Purchase Requests for proper coding and budget adequacy 
  4. Liaison with Supply Chain, Administration, and Program.

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

Requirements:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or Advance Diploma in Accounting from a recognized College/Institution
  • Minimum of Zero to one year of finance or accounting experience
  • Computer literate with significant experience in MS. Office, and accounting package knowledge (Integra & ERP) will be an added advantage.
  • Previous experience with International NGOs and/or USAID projects is highly desirable. 
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Very good in English and Arabic

Ability to prioritize among multiple tasks and make decisions.
