Job Summary:

The Parenting Skills Facilitator at the Child-Friendly Space (CFS) is responsible for delivering parenting sessions and activities that support caregivers in developing positive, nurturing parenting skills. Working directly with parents, caregivers, and community members, the facilitator creates a safe, supportive environment to help parents address challenges, understand child development, and apply effective parenting techniques that prioritize the child’s well-being, safety, and growth.



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Organize and lead structured parenting skills sessions in the Child-Friendly Space, focusing on topics such as positive discipline, communication, child development, and stress management.
  • Use interactive methods to engage participants, including group discussions, role-plays, storytelling, and practical exercises.
  • Tailor the content to meet the unique needs and cultural context of parents and caregivers  incorporating relevant, culturally appropriate examples and practices.
  • Provide practical tools, techniques, and resources to help parents manage child behavior, foster a positive family environment, and enhance their parenting confidence.
  • Empower caregivers to recognize signs of stress, both in themselves and their children, and develop strategies for resilience and emotional well-being.
  • Educate parents on the importance of child protection, safety, and the role of supportive parenting in a child’s emotional and physical development.
  • Collaborate with the Child Protection Officer to develop curriculum, training guides, handouts, and resources that align with the needs of parents and caregivers.
  • Adapt materials to ensure accessibility for participants of various literacy levels, using visual aids, local languages, and culturally relevant materials.
  • Provide one-on-one support to parents and caregivers who may need additional guidance on specific parenting challenges.
  • Follow up with participants who may have complex parenting or family-related concerns, referring them to specialized support services when necessary.
  • Offer guidance and emotional support to caregivers experiencing high levels of stress, trauma, or other challenges affecting their parenting.
  • Build strong relationships with community members, local leaders, and other stakeholders to encourage participation and raise awareness about parenting support programs.
  • Coordinate with other facilitators, community workers, and local organizations to share best practices and integrate community feedback into programming.
  • Track attendance, participation, and feedback from parenting skills sessions to assess effectiveness and gather insights for program improvement.
  • Maintain accurate records of participant progress, session outcomes, and any identified needs for additional resources.
  • Contribute to regular reports on program activities, identifying trends, successes, and areas for improvement in parenting skills programming.
  • Actively promote positive parenting, non-violence, and inclusive practices that respect children’s rights and encourage healthy family relationships.
  • Educate parents on creating safe environments for their children and recognizing and preventing harmful practices, neglect, or violence.
  • Ensure that all activities in the Child-Friendly Space uphold a safe, welcoming atmosphere where families feel supported and valued.

 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

  • Diploma or degree in Social Work, Psychology, Community Development, Education, or a related field. Additional training in parenting skills, child development, or child protection is an advantage.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience working with children, families, or in a child protection setting, ideally in a humanitarian or community context.
  • Strong facilitation and communication skills, capable of engaging with diverse audiences, particularly parents and caregivers.
  • Understanding of child development principles, child protection, and family dynamics in the context of Sudan.

Proficiency in Arabic and other local languages and cultural awareness to facilitate effective communication and foster trust. Basic knowledge of English is an advantage
