The Child Protection Psychosocial Support Worker

is responsible for delivering psychosocial support (PSS) services to vulnerable children and their families. This includes providing counseling, conducting child-friendly activities, and facilitating the creation of safe, supportive community environments. The role is central to addressing the emotional and social needs of children, especially those affected by displacement, conflict, or other emergencies.



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver individual and group psychosocial support sessions tailored for children and their families, ensuring a child-friendly approach.
  • Facilitate child-centered activities such as recreational sessions, life skills programs, and resilience-building exercises.
  • Identify vulnerable children in need of PSS services through community engagement, outreach, and referrals.
  • Create and maintain child-friendly spaces where children can feel safe and supported.
  • Develop and implement age-appropriate psychosocial support plans aligned with cultural and community contexts.
  • Raise awareness on child protection issues, including emotional well-being, child rights, and the importance of safe family environments.
  • Collaborate with community leaders, school personnel, and child protection committees to establish safety networks and promote child welfare.
  • Train community volunteers and caregivers on basic psychosocial support techniques and child safeguarding principles.
  • Support the development of child-specific referral pathways for education, health, and protection services.
  • Monitor and document children’s progress, adjusting PSS interventions as needed.
  • Advocate for child-friendly policies and community practices that promote child safety and well-being.
  • Maintain detailed and confidential records of all PSS activities and support provided.
  • Contribute to regular reports summarizing PSS activities, challenges, and successes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

  • Degree or diploma in Social Work, Child Development, Psychology, Counseling, or a related field. Training in child protection or community psychosocial support is strongly preferred.
  • 1-2 years of experience in child-focused psychosocial support or child protection programming, ideally in a rural or low-resource context.
  • Strong understanding of child protection principles, child development, and trauma-informed care.
  • Experience conducting child-friendly individual and group counseling.
  • Familiarity with child protection case management and referral protocols is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of local cultural and social norms impacting children and families.

Fluency in Arabic and local languages is essential. Basic English is preferred for reporting and coordination.
