GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION:

 

MAIN PURPOSE:  Food Safety and Quality Officer will responsible of planning, organizing and regulating tasks to ensure safe distribution of food commodities, transfer and distribute supplies for beneficiaries according to the project proposal and guidelines of food security, quality health standards and professional regulations and policies approved by BFD.  



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

  • Develops and implements plans and procedures for executing the distribution of food commodities in accordance with the specifications, conditions and dates agreed upon.
  • Preparing and implementing quality and food safety plans for all operations.
  • Establishes various work procedures to facilitate the implementation of the work of preparing and transfer food commodities during all stages to ensure the implementation of the project's objectives on a daily basis.
  • Undertakes the development of the food safety guide for the project and supervises the implementation of its content.
  • Responsible for examining all materials used in the project and their compliance with the conditions and specifications and ensuring their validity before use.
  • Develop preventive health measures in accordance with principles, standards and scientific evidence based on the principle of risk analysis, in a manner that protects the health of the beneficiary students and families and implement these measures.
  • Supervises, follows up and evaluates the level of compliance with occupational health and safety rules during all stages, transportation and distribution to beneficiaries, prepares periodic reports and necessary recommendations and follows up on their adoption and implementation.
  • Prepares periodic reports on the level of commitment to the approved plans and programs entrusted to him and determines deviations, obstacles and proposed solutions.
  • Prepares and submits periodic reports in accordance with the specified and approved forms on time, and provides supporting documents.
  • Documenting, preserving and archiving all documents, records and data related to his work duties.
  • Works on studying and assessing various risks on an ongoing basis according to the different environmental conditions and sets plans and procedures for early interaction to ensure the continuity of the flow of food distribution to the beneficiaries in accordance with the approved plans of the Bank.
  • Conduct training for all field workers in the field of food safety
  • Performs any other tasks related to his competence and objectives.

 


 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

 

Knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Excellent management and leadership skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Good organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and team building skills.
  • Good knowledge of food security norms and standards.
  • Knowledge of international humanitarian guidelines, standards and protocols is desirable
  • Good understanding and knowledge of supply chains.
  • Ability to achieve results and meet deadlines in a demanding, pressured and fast-paced environment.  
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Dynamic personality.
  • Diplomacy, confidence and ability to support and train staff.
  • Capacity and willingness to travel to the field.
  • Fluency in written and spoken Arabic and English.

Qualification: 

  • Bachelor degree in agriculture, agronomy, food security, humanitarian action or any related field. (master degree is an advantage) 

Experience:

  • At least 2 years work experience in a Food safety and quality.
  • Previous experience in NGO and humanitarian field is an advantage.
  • Previous experience in food security program implementation is an advantage.
  • Excellent computer literacy, including Microsoft Office, Microsoft Teams and ERP system.

 

Core Humanitarian Standards (CHS): The role holder is required to carry out the duties in adherence to the Core Humanitarian Standards, the values and principles outlined in BFD's policies such as Code of Conduct, Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse, Child Safeguarding, Anti Workplace Harassment, Fiscal Integrity, Anti-Retaliation and other internal policies and guidelines.
