Functional Responsibilities & Tasks:
1. Coordinate health and nutrition project implementation in alignment with technical guidelines, project objectives, and approved work plans.
2. Provide technical oversight for health and nutrition interventions, ensuring compliance with national and international standards in maternal and child health, nutrition, and disease prevention.
3. Conduct health and nutrition assessments to identify community needs, evaluate health service availability, and analyze nutritional status through surveys, screenings, and other data collection methods.
4. Develop and implement technical work plans for health and nutrition activities, ensuring timely and quality delivery of services such as nutrition screening, treatment of malnutrition, and health education.
5. Monitor the quality and effectiveness of health services, including routine immunizations, health promotion activities, maternal and child health care, and the management of acute malnutrition, ensuring adherence to protocols.
6. Provide technical support to project teams, including health officers, nutritionists, and community mobilizers, to ensure the correct implementation of activities and adherence to technical guidelines.
7. Collaborate with the MEAL (Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning) team to ensure data collection for health and nutrition activities meets monitoring and evaluation requirements.
8. Conduct field visits regularly to monitor progress, verify data, and address challenges in implementing health and nutrition activities.
9. Report regularly on health and nutrition interventions, documenting activities, progress, challenges, and outcomes, and submitting timely, accurate field reports.
10. Develop concept notes, proposals, and budgets for health and nutrition interventions.
11. Build networks and relationships with UN agencies and donors to explore funding opportunities.
12. Supervise and manage field staff, including health officers, nutritionists, and community health workers, ensuring quality service delivery and guiding to enhance team productivity.
13. Facilitate capacity-building activities for field-based staff and community health workers to strengthen skills in nutrition management, maternal care, and health promotion techniques.
14. Represent IR at health and nutrition meetings with local health authorities, clusters, stakeholders, and partners to ensure alignment and coordination of activities.
15. Collaborate with external partners, including government health departments, UN agencies, and other organizations, to ensure coordination and complementarity of health and nutrition activities.
16. Ensure health and nutrition activities adhere to donor requirements and budget constraints, reviewing financial expenditures related to health and nutrition components of the project.
17. Maintain proper documentation of health and nutrition interventions, including assessments, activity reports, and health data, ensuring accurate filing and record-keeping for auditing and future reference.
18. Assess and address health risks in the project area, including disease outbreaks or potential health threats, and work with the Head of Program and Security Coordinator on mitigation strategies.
19. Ensure the safety and security of staff by adhering to security protocols and providing safety briefings and travel guidelines for field-based health teams.
20. Travel frequently to field sites, with extended stays as needed, to monitor activities and provide technical support to ensure successful project implementation.
21. Adapt to challenging field conditions, including limited resources and basic living accommodations, while maintaining high standards of technical delivery in health and nutrition.
Working Conditions:
1. The post-duty station is based in Port Sudan.
2. The position requires frequent field-based travel, up to 40% of the time, with extended stays depending on project needs.
3. Movement is primarily conducted using IRW vehicles or rented vehicles to facilitate project activities in remote or underserved areas.
