Introduction to the Country Office:

Norwegian church Aid is in Sudan since 1972 and works in the fields of relief, rehabilitation, and development, and works through national partners.
NCA’s Country Office is currently in Port Sudan. It has a Field Office in Al-Gadarif, Al-Gadarif State, where its projects activities encompass GBV, Climate Resilient WASH, Climate Smart Economic Empowerment, and Health. As well, its projects activities in Kosti, White Nile State are implemented by the national partners

 Background:

NCA is active in Sudan, responding to humanitarian crises. The organization's core competencies include Gender-Based Violence (GBV), Climate-Resilient Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), and Economic Development and Food Security (EDFS). By working with and investing in local partners from the outset, NCA builds its capacities for long-term intervention, including recovery and development. 

 

JOB PURPOSE

This position will ensure improved and expanded community-based services to meet the psychosocial needs of women and adolescent girls.  The GBV caseworker responds to incidents of GBV in a timely, compassionate, and caring manner and provides basic counselling and support to survivors of Gender-Based Violence. The GBV Case Worker works in close collaboration with the Senior GBV Response Officer, other program staff, community leaders, women leaders, local partners, WASH team, health facilities, and other agencies in the location to support and provide services to women and girls who have been affected by conflict through case management services.    

 



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

MAIN DUTIES

  • Facilitate a process for women to have a safe space where they can meet and discuss issues relating to their wellbeing.
  • Create and maintain a positive and fruitful relationship with women and girls who use the Women and Girls Safe Spaces (WGSS) within the general community in which the WGSS is located.
  • Provide professional and confidential case management services to survivors of GBV and other vulnerable women and girls using the IASC guidelines, survivor-centred approach and case management guidelines. 
  • Document client information through accurate filling in of the intake forms and ensure confidential and safe storage.
  • Formulate appropriate responses to individual cases according to acceptable standards and in the best interests of the individual. 
  • Make use of referral mechanisms as appropriate and according to the requests of individuals/families.
  • Participate in the interpretation of the analyzed data on trends and work with the Senior Officer, and other GBV colleagues to disseminate information to all relevant stakeholders.
  • Coordinate and conduct community education and awareness-raising activities in conjunction with the GBV outreach workers and volunteers with support from the senior GBV officer on available GBV response services and accessibilities.   
  • Ensure implementation of age and appropriate activities in the women and girls’ safe space which women have agreed on and been involved in, including, but not limited to, training, information sessions, skills building, literacy classes, recreation activities, and any other group activities.
  • Participate in the preparation of all relevant reports regarding NCA’s psychosocial activities and submit them on a weekly or monthly basis as requested. 
  • Participate in meetings, training and mentoring and work as part of a team.
  • Ensure that all program activities create a neutral, empowerment and supportive environment for women and girls.
  • Ensure strict adherence to NCA/ACT code of conduct

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

REQUIREMENTS 

  • Because of the nature of the work required, this position is open to women candidates only. Must be able to maintain confidentiality 
  • A University Degree or diploma or certificate in Psychology, Sociology, Gender studies, Health, or equivalent is a requirement. 
  • Previous social work experience or experience working with women and girls affected by conflict required. 
  • Minimum two years' experience in GBV, protection, Child protection and social work an advantage.
  • Experience in GBVIMS and case management is an advantage.
  • Good training and facilitation. skills are necessary.
  • Ability to speak Arabic and English.  ability to speak the local languages of the location an advantage
  • Willing to stay and work in remote locations.
  • Flexible and can adapt to the prevailing environment. 
  • Computer literate especially Microsoft Word, excel database, and power point. Knowledge of other software is an advantage.
