Background: WHO WE ARE The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) works worldwide to provide protection and humanitarian assistance to people affected by conflict and armed violence. We take action in response to emergencies and at the same time promote respect for international humanitarian law. We are an independent and neutral organization, and our mandate stems essentially from the Geneva Conventions of 1949. We work closely with National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and with their International Federation in order to ensure a concerted, rational and rapid humanitarian response to the needs of the victims of armed conflict or any other situation of internal violence. We direct and coordinate the international activities conducted in these situations. THE PURPOSE The Protection Field Officer contributes to the implementation and monitoring of ICRC Protection activities under the supervision of the Protection Team Leader (PTL), and in coordination with other departments within the sub-delegation when needed, in the whole Darfur. Specifically, the Protection Field Officer supports and implements activities related to the documentation and analysis of Protection of the Civilian Population (PCP) events and trends, the Management of the Deceased (MoTD) and when requested the Protection of Family Links (PFL), as well as the development of appropriate response strategies.

Duties and responsibilities:
Protection of the Civilian Population (PCP) - Contributes to the implementation of the PCP activities in the whole Darfur.
- Supports the PTL in the collection and registration of PCP events/trends/information and supports the documentation of the humanitarian consequences of the conflict on the civilian population as per delegation guidelines/procedures, when appropriate, including in the area of Gender Based Violence (GBV).
- Represents the ICRC vis-à-vis communities, individuals, authorities, and weapon bearers, explaining the ICRC’s mandate and activities, when appropriate and safe.
- Contributes to the development and maintains contact with the authorities, the National Societies, communities, etc., in line with the strategy and priorities of the PCP unit and under the supervision of the line manager.
Management of the deceased (MoTD) - Contributes to the implementation of MoTD activities in the whole Darfur. Maintains a positive relationship with the local National Societies branches in relation to their MoTD activities and supports in the follow up of their needs and implementation of activities.
Protection of Family Links - Contributes to the implementation of the PFL activities in the whole Darfur.
- Ensures the proper monitoring and follow-up of PFL connectivity points in the whole Darfur, identifies needs and implements improvements/adaptations as required.
- Collects and properly follows-up on the other PFL services like Red Cross Message-s/Salamats/Tracing Requests (TCs) etc. in line with the Delegation working procedures/workflows.
- Contributes to PFL reports as required (i.e., monthly statistical analysis)
- Supports in the distribution of PFL-related material assistance to National Societies branches.
- Maintains a positive and productive working relationship with the local National Societies branches, Tracing Focal Points, volunteers and provides technical support related to PFL.
All Protection-related files - Contributes to the implementation of the budget for the whole Darfur, in line with the delegation guidelines/procedures.
- Follows up on all work-related messages and correspondence with the relevant contacts and departments.
- Contributes to the collection and shares information so as to improve the ICRC’s understanding of the environment and humanitarian trends and responses.

Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent higher education degree in a humanitarian area, socio-economic development, humanitarian law, human rights, or equivalent field
- 3-5 years’ previous professional experiences in the field of humanitarian, social, political or economic sciences or similar position, experience with the ICRC or another humanitarian agency an asset.
- Good knowledge of the assigned environment and its cultural aspects.
- Fluent command of English and Arabic.
- Computer literacy.
- Readiness to spend 50% to 70% of the time in all states of Darfur.
- Very good knowledge of the ICRC mandate and ability to speak about it with a wide range of interlocutors.
- Ability to work remotely in an independent way.
- Skilled in the following competencies: Leadership, Accountability, People management, Teamwork & Collaboration, Representing the ICRC, Beneficiary & Client focused.
