Main Purpose of Job: 

 

The Protection Assistant will be based in River Nile and will be responsible for conducting protection monitoring to identify protection concerns and respond through internal and external referrals, collecting quantitative and qualitative data, providing cash assistance as necessary. Responsibilities will include daily data collection in the field and weekly reporting.  The Protection Assistant will liaise regularly with the other IRC sectors for information sharing and referrals for services. The Protection Assistant will also coordinate with other service providers in the field to conduct and receive referrals. 

This position will report to the Protection Officer and will receive additional technical support from the Protection and Rule of Law Manager

 



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

  • Visit IDP settings, villages and quarters with other Protection Assistants, forming a mobile team to meet with community representatives and IDP families to conduct community and household level interviews to identify protection risks and concerns, 
  • Provide information and make referrals to other sectors of the IRC or to other service providers and follow up with the conducted referrals to ensure an action is taken and the results are communicated to the client. Assess if clients are eligible for cash for protection assistance and support the provision of cash assistance in line with the SOP. 
  • Work to identify and support community focal points/settlement representatives to participate in ongoing monitoring activities and follow-up. 
  •  Analyze data and highlight trends and protection needs in reporting to the Protection Officer
  • Keep records of the vulnerable individuals including women and the direct action taken to assist them.
  • Fill in protection monitoring, progress report and referral tools and submit them to the Information Management Officer and direct supervisor on regular basis.
  • In coordination with the Protection Officer, gather information to develop service mapping in the target areas.
  • Conduct other additional duties assigned by supervisor in support of the protection program

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in law/sociology/psychology not required but preferred
  • At least one-year experience in NGOs, social work.
  • Good knowledge in human rights including gender equality.
  • Experience working with IDP population preferred.
  • Good communication skills including ability to gain trust and build relationships with new communities.
  • Basic computer skills including Microsoft Word.
  • Experience in regular report writing.
  • High standard of spoken and written Arabic, English is preferable.
