 Duties and responsibilities:

General responsibility:

Under the supervision of ERM team leader, is responsible for the good running of water supply, and sanitation activities at the field level within his/her team.

In the course of undertaking tasks, she/he represents Triangle with professionalism, honesty and commitment and attempts at all times to maintain TGH good reputation through the work implemented.

 

Members of the ERM team will be required to spend significant periods (for days, possibly weeks at one time) staying overnight in basic conditions in locations away from their assigned base (staying overnight at community leaders’ homes or other locations in the field). Team members must be willing and able to travel to, stay, and work in different states in Darfur.

 

1. Responsibilities and related tasks

Team Management

Organise and supervise the work of the ERM Watsan component according to the planning defined by TGH strategies and as defined by the ERM team leader.

Coordinate with water supply TGH field staff to ensure that the hardware and software aspects of the WASH response are in adequacy with TGH objectives.

  • Coordinate with WatSan field staff to ensure that the hardware and software aspects of the WASH response are in adequacy with TGH objectives under ERM project.
  • Make weekly and monthly planning with his/ her team in coordination with Team leader.
  • Participate in the weekly meeting
  • Report to the ERM team leader any problem with his work/duties that could prevent the realization of the activities

 

 

 

Activities implementation & monitoring

Contribute to settling a first emergency response on hygiene promotion and sanitation, by assessing and promoting the evolution of hygiene habits, sanitation situation, and perception within the area of intervention.

  • Implement activities related to water supply: Water trucking, construction of new Emergency Water Systems, reparation of hand pumps, training of maintenance agents on hand pump maintenance, and use of Indian Mark II Standard and Special toolboxes. 
  • Prepare all WatSan infrastructure designs, BoQs, engineering drawings,…etc.
  • Ensure good and periodic follow-up of water supply indicators (frequentation survey, state of water points, water quality, waiting time, follow-up of cost-recovery systems) in all water points linked with TGH activities (urban and rural areas). Ensure the collection of the data and the compilation into softcopies and WASH Database and Water Point ID Cards. 
  • Use participatory methodologies to assist target communities to identify their health and hygiene issues and develop appropriate community-driven solutions within TGH HP strategies.
  • Liaise with community influencers in the target communities, local authorities, and community groups to facilitate community involvement in the design and delivery of essential WaSH facilities
  • Participate in conducting technical WaSH rapid assessments.
  • Prepare sanitation facilities design, site selection, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation as needed.
  • Integrate activities with other TGH sectors and use these programs to promote hygiene awareness and practices in the community.
  • Prepare handover of activities through the TGH Wash team for the implementation of phase 2 of the response.

 

Garbage Collection

  • Supervise the solid waste management (including burning of the rubbish in the identified location) 
  • Participate to weekly cleaning campaigns organized by TGH or partner in coordination with Hygiene Promotion team. 
  • Identify and monitor the garbage containers, garbage collection points, and the incinerators and report on their conditions ,
  • Supervise the maintenance or building of new garbage containers and/or burning areas.
  • Apply monthly inventory of materials and equipments for garbage collection (including materials donated by TGH to partners).
  • Identify the needs of garbage activity in coordination with TGH partner or garbage team.
  • Elaborate the garbage collection plan for the week

 

Latrine Construction and Maintenance

  • Regularly assess the need of the latrines in TGH area of intervention, with the collaboration of the Com Mob team, including latrines in case of emergency with collaboration with the ERM Team leader. 
  • Plan and monitor latrines’ construction, maintenance, and fencing/enclosing implemented by the labor force or community members.
  • Advice the community on the most suitable place to build a latrine
  • Under the supervision of ERM team leader monitor the construction of slabs and concrete beams. 
  • Supervise the provision of material given to the community under line management approval.
  • Ensure community members are adequately trained in latrine implementation.
  • Manage a team of construction (daily workers). 
  • Collaborate with the keeper to make regular checks of latrine materials on stock and report it to the ERM team leader.

 

Reporting

Contribute to settle a program of hygiene promotion, by assessing and promoting the evolution of hygiene habits and perception within the area of intervention.

  • Contribute of reporting WatSan and linked HP activities in the monthly follow up reports and weekly reports to ERM team leaderr. 
  • Responsible of entering the data of WASH monthly surveys.
  • Have to contribute in project intermediate and final report

 

Planning

Contribute to draft WatSan activities planning according to the strategy.

  • Plan the KAP survey 

PSEA & Safeguarding: 

  • Facilitate awareness campaigns on PSEA (Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse) to affected populations and local communities, the standards of conduct expected of TGH staff and partners, and the various mechanisms for reporting abuse or concerns related to PSEA, including contact information.
  • Ensures that TGH staff and partners respect and implement the Child Safeguarding Policy.

Personal capacity-building

  • Participate actively in the training courses recommended by TGH, and share new skills and knowledge with his/ her team or colleagues and TGH’s partners (WES, water committees).
  • Inform his/her Manager about identified training needs and training opportunities on his/ her job-related matters 
  • Co-operate in the supervision of partner organizations according to TGH partnership agreements whenever necessary. 

 

Any other tasks assigned by the line or the base manager based on TGH project needs.


 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

2. Required knowledge and Skills:

  • University degree in Water engineer, related filed.
  • Minimum 2 years of total experience in WASH/Watsan position in WASH sector.
  • Substantial experience in coordinating, mobilizing community, planning, implementation, supervision, monitoring and reporting.
  • Ability and willingness to travel and work in rural areas where the project is implemented, within approved security frameworks.
  • Knowledge related to WASH topics
  • Speaking, reading and writing  English and Arabic fluently
  • Very good verbal communication skills 
  • Ability to raise community’s awareness and motivation
  • Computer skills
  • Knowledge of local language an asset
  • Experience of at least 1 year in WaSH activities (mainly on water and Sanitation)
  • Emergency response experience is an asset.
