 Background:

Alsalam Organization for Rehabilitation and Development - AORD is a Voluntary, non-governmental, non-profit organization. works with communities to promote peace building, sustainable solutions for humanitarian aid, rehabilitation and development through life-saving, protection, education, Water sanitation and Hygiene, Food security and livelihood programs and Health and Nutrition programs.Since its establishment in 2007, AORD has been actively working among societies to promote peace building and the values of peaceful coexistence, build capacities for conflict transformation and promote social cohesion and integration with a focus on building the capacities of community actors, managing natural resources and increasing access to basic services.



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

Purpose: 

Under the supervision of the Program Manager, the health and nutrition coordinator will coordinate and implement Health and Nutrition interventions and support the field officers in the implementation of health and nutrition activities. The Health and Nutrition Coordinator is expected to contribute in building sustainable interventions in promoting integration of nutrition services into the health services package, provides technical assistance and support for program /project design, planning, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and administration of program/project activities, including data analysis, progress reporting, knowledge networking and capacity building,

Technical Responsibilities: 

  • Implement assigned Health and nutrition activities in line with international standards and best practices. 
  • Plan, implement and monitor day-to-day Health and nutrition activities as part of AORD’s Program Team.  
  • Conduct Health and nutrition needs and vulnerability assessments. 
  • Lead the prioritization of the most vulnerable individuals for service using agreed vulnerability criteria. 
  • Ensure the provision of effective Health and nutrition services. 
  • Identify individuals with special needs and provide specialized assistance. 
  • Collaborate with relevant partners to develop and maintain Health and nutrition mechanisms. 
  • Develop and contribute to the development of training materials on Health and nutrition issues. 
  • Contribute in the development of guidelines on AORD’s specific activities 
  • Undertake analysis and assessments of Health and nutrition issues  
  • Implement capacity building plans for individuals’ staff and teams, including delivery of trainings and on the job coaching and mentoring 
  • Support in the orientation of, beneficiaries, duty-bearers and other stakeholders in basic Health and nutrition concepts.

Project Monitoring and Evaluation: 

  • Monitor Health and nutrition trends, needs in AORD’s areas of intervention, and recommend activities and responses for AORD’s and other agencies. 
  • Analyze disaggregated Health and nutrition related data as a means to inform programming and response activities.  
  • Regularly monitor the project’s Health and nutrition activities and provide feedback for ensuring activities is responsive, and contextually and culturally appropriate. 
  • Assisting in developing and conducting assessments, mid-term and end of project reports and evaluations.  
  • Ensure AORD’s accountability commitments are mainstreamed into all Health and nutrition activities.
  • Participate and represent AORD in all Health and nutrition forums that contribute to shaping of Health and nutrition agenda. 

Report Writing and Documentation: 

  • Prepare program status reports required for management and donors, budget review, program analysis, regular reports, etc.
  • Ensure proper documentation of all project activities including means of verification, assessments and case studies. 
  • Contribute to the development of project proposal and concept notes. 

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

Training/ Education:


Degree in Public Health/Nutrition or Advanced University Degree in Social Sciences or related technical field


Technical specific knowledge /skills:

  • Knowledge in Health and Nutrition systems. 
  • Experience in nutrition and hygiene promotion, work with local communities, children and vulnerable people, experience in community mobilization and participation. 
  • At least 1-2 years of experience in health and nutrition project.
  • Proven experience in capacity building, health and nutrition soft activities or similar activities.
  • Reporting capacity, organized and rigorous personality, availability/learning capacity
  • Ability to work in a team, interpersonal qualities, and diplomacy, flexible with respect to job priority.
  • Good knowledge of INGOs and donor agencies procedure, guidelines, and intervention in the country.
  • Strong communication skills, used to speak in front of an audience and able to work dynamically with children and adult
  • Experience in community mobilization and participation
  • Availability/ Capacity to learn
  • Ability to work under pressure and in a multi-cultural environment
  • Fluent in Arabic and excellent English 
  • Computer skills: Microsoft Office, especially Excel

Physical Environment and Demands:

Office based in Kassala with regular visits to the field

Child Protection: 

 Demonstrate commitment to AORD’s child protection and PSEA policies though full implementation and adhering to the policies, and report any actual or potential risk situations following the reporting procedures, being aware of abuse and risks to children, being vigilant, becoming familiar with the CPP, and preventing abuse/protect children.
