Main Purpose of Job: 

 

The Medical Doctor/clinic supervisor will be part of a health team that will support the implementation of the IRC’s health programs and will ensure the delivery of high-quality primary healthcare  and reproductive health services.  S(He) will be responsible for the provision of primary and reproductive health services at the IRC supported health facility, covering ANC/PNC and safe delivery, Family Planning, STI prevention and treatment, management of complications of pregnancies, and Clinical care for sexual assault survivors. The Medical Doctor/clinic supervisor might need to provide direct service delivery and give guidance, increase capacity of the clinical team (midwives, Nurses, and clinic support staff) and ensure clinical quality of IRC health care services are maintained

 



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

She/he will work with a team of IRC supported clinic-based service providers (Nurses, Midwife, health visitors from the MOH) and will ensure the clinic-based activities at the IRC supported health facility are within best standards. He will provide technical guidance in particularly the Maternal and child health activities at the health facility level.

 

Service delivery.

  • Support the provision of consultations, curative services, antenatal and postnatal care at the health facility 
  • Oversee the Primary health care activities of Child welfare, immunizations and Nutrition screening.
  • Supervise intra-partum care and assist the midwives in deliveries as needed in the maternity unit
  • Manage common complications in pregnancy, delivery and post-partum phases, and refer cases requiring comprehensive emergency obstetric and neonatal care.
  • Technical support on counselling on family planning and offer FP commodities according to the client’s informed choice
  • Technical support on counselling and clinical care of sexual assault survivors and refer for psycho-social care
  • Provide management of complication of pregnancies according to the MoH/international protocols and standards.
  • Technical support on counselling and treatment of patients with STI, including partner treatment.
  • Maintain infection prevention and control within and around the IRC supported health facility
  • Mentor and coach midwives, nurses and health visitors in the IRC supported Health facility on the following areas:
  • Delivery room operation 
  • Child welfare, Nutritional and immunization 
  • Emergency obstetric and neonatal Care
  • Counselling and provision of Family Planning 
  • Clinical Care for Sexual Assault Survivors 
  • Syndromic treatment of STIs

Staff Supervision & Development

  • Provide technical support and guidance for complications in pregnancy, assisted and complicated deliveries, as well as complications in the post-natal period. 
  • Provide on-the-job coaching (supportive supervision) to midwives, nurses, and other clinic support staff 
  • Organize and facilitate formal and informal trainings for project staff 
  • Participate in and support midwives, community mobilizers and community volunteers in activities that aim to increase women’s RH awareness and service utilization. 
  • Support the Health Manager to organize regular meetings with local committees and strengthening the community relationship.

Project monitoring

  • Support and monitor the health care providers in maintaining the registration of medical consultations and weekly/monthly data collection. 
  • Together with the HIS officer, Health Manager and the rest of the project staff participate in ensuring data-quality collection and maintenance.
  • Review and analyze all clinic data to inform program decisions and direction. 
  • Contribute to the health program work plan and midterm evaluations. Assist the Health manager/HIS officer in monitoring and following up on specific project indicators.
  • Monitor the medical stock at the health facility level and assists in timely requisition of new supplies from the warehouse. 

Coordination & Representation

  • Works closely and coordinates with the IRC supply chain, Health manager to ensure activities are conducted within the timeframe and compliance of the grants. 
  • Undertake/participate in liaison, coordination, and information sharing activities with national NGOs, international organizations, MoH, donors and community stakeholders.
  • Maintain effective relations with the Ministry of Health departments
  • Represent IRC during site visits of external guests and IRC head quarter visitors. 

Other

  • Consistently and proactively monitor and assess the safety and security of the team; promptly reporting concerns or incidents to IRC management and liaising with community leaders and other external parties as required to maintain/enhance the security environment for IRC programs

Other duties as assigned by the supervisor to enable and develop IRC programs

  • Ensure non-disclosure of any information whatsoever about practices and IRC activities to any other person or organization without permission, except in the normal performance of the service. 

     

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

Education: 

  • Qualified Medical Doctor, from a recognized Medical University.
  • permanent registration certificate from Sudan Medical board.

Work Experience: 

  • At least 1 to 2 years or more experience on clinic supervisor roll , experience in managing health interventions
  • Ability and flexibility to understand and work within emergency situations. 

Demonstrated Skills and Competencies: 

  • Professional skills to provide sensitive and appropriate medical care 
  • Familiarity with the local context: language, culture, etc. 
  • Ability to maintain beneficiary confidentiality and respect always is essential.

Demonstrated Managerial/Leadership Competencies:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, good spoken and written English for concise reporting. 
  • Able to provide positive and negative feedback in a sensitive manner. 
  • Ability to coordinate activities with other teams.
  • Excellent communication skills.

Languages: 

  • Fluency Spoken and written English

Computer/Other Tech Requirements:

  • Basic computer Literacy: Word and Excel 
  • Able to work remains productive under difficult and high-pressure situations with the ability to prioritize effectively, and respects and adheres to deadlines.
