 Background:

Cooperazione Internazionale (COOPI) is an international Italian NGO established in 1965. Since its establishment, COOPI has been undertaking activities to help and empower the poor and needy in different countries. COOPI Sudan started its operation in 2004 and has been primarily implementing emergency, relief and early recovery programs in water hygiene and sanitation, food security and livelihood, nutrition and protection sectors. COOPI is currently implementing several projects in North Darfur, Gadaref and Khartoum in the sectors of WASH, Food Security and Livelihood, Climate Change adaptation, Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and Refugee Response.

Under the supervision of the Psychologist and of the Project Manager, the Psychosocial Promoters ensures the implementation of community activities (psychosocial activities) within the framework of mental health care and psychosocial support to strengthen resilience among affected population, implementing psychosocial activities with vulnerable children and women, assuring a daily follow up and supervising the community volunteers. 



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

Planning, Implementation, Monitoring and Reporting:   

  • Supervise and facilitate the implementation of psychosocial activities: sports, cultural,
  • Lead specific activities for children in CFS
  • Ensure the correct implementation of recreational and psychosocial activities within communities,
  • Provide ongoing awareness raising, technical support, monitoring and evaluation of community performance
  • Technically support pre-existing resilience systems in communities while respecting cultural norms
  • Participate together with psychologists in MHPSS needs assessment missions
  • Support staff in organizing and providing quality services
  • Support for the organization and facilitation of awareness-raising activities on themes such as VBG, health, children rights, community based protection activities etc..
  • Facilitate the training and the supervision of community volunteers
  • Supporting the psychologist in the identification of vulnerable children and women
  • Participation in team meetings set by the psychologist supervisor, including a weekly debriefing meeting with other staff members to discuss progress of activities and challenges identified,
  • Drafting a weekly schedule of activities to send to the psychologist supervisor,
  • Provide activity reports and quality data collection of psychosocial activities to provide the supervising psychologist with a weekly and/or monthly activity report;

 

 

Community Engagement and Accountability: 

 

  • Ensure Accountability to Affected Populations in line with COOPI standards; 
  • Ensure gender and disability mainstreaming in all activities, with special attention to those who are marginalized and overlooked in community decision making aspects are adequately considered during the planning and implementation process.

 

External Relations and Representation: 

  • Establish and maintain contact with project interlocutors and stakeholders;
  • Facilitate the communication between community representatives, committees, local authorities and relevant stakeholders; 
  • Liaise with the main stakeholders involved in the project, in coordination with the Project Manager ; 

 

Other:  

  • Participate in donor visits and monitoring missions if required; 
  • Translate and/or interpret for COOPI staff and facilitate discussions and relations with project stakeholders; 
  • Perform general office work such as drafting reports, filing documents, photocopying, scanning, updating databases, analyzing and processing data, etc.; 
  • Report any problem encountered with accuracy and rapidly.

 

General Duties: 

  • Is aware of COOPI’s objectives and activities in Sudan.
  • Respects security rules at all time.
  • Pledges to respect and act in accordance with COOPI’s Code of Ethics, PSEA Policy, and other applicable organizational policies.
  • Replace other employees in their absence when necessary.
  • The staff member may be asked to perform duties and tasks not covered in this job description as well as to provide support to other functional units when requested and necessary.

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

  • Minimum Diploma level with specialization in counselling, social work or community development
  • Experience working with vulnerable groups, specifically persons with disabilities, victims of VBG, vulnerable children
  • Experience in related work within an NGO or organization in emergency or post-conflict setting
  • At least 1 year of Experience in community-based psychosocial support, PSS and/or MHPSS
  • Technical understanding of child protection in emergencies and community based approaches
  • experience in training and supervision processes
  • Willingness and ability to work among IDP, displaced populations
  • Good knowledge of community mobilization methods and tools
  • Ability to organize and prioritize workload and to cope with stress and high pressure
  • Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural team
  • Ability to work with partners(local and international actors)
  • Knowledge of the principles of referrals mechanisms and pathways
  • Experience using MS Windows and MS Office packages (Excel, Word, Powerpoint) for reporting
  • Good written and spoken English, very good Arabic proficiency; 
  • Experience in the project location
