 Background:

The psychologist will identify mental health and psychosocial support needs for the benefit of victims of armed conflict and other situations of violence, particularly children and women. He/she will create and develop adapted MHPSS projects and programs in line with the priorities determined by COOPI. He/she will ensure performance tools and trainings are available for local staff, in order to guarantee smooth implementation of the programs, while taking into consideration the local cultural context. He/she will be entirely responsible for the implementation, monitoring and follow-up of the MHPSS activities



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

Planning, Implementation, Monitoring and Reporting:   

  • Evaluates the risk factors and identifies those in need of long- term MHPSS support (communities, vulnerable groups and victims)
  • Put in place assistance programs, taking into consideration the concerns and coping mechanisms of the victims, in a given cultural context.
  • Supporting in the implementation of CFS and in the training of community volunteers
  • Supporting the team in developing appropriate activities in CFS
  • Implement and ensure, often in partnership with local stakeholders (NGOs, authorities), proper follow-up of the MHPSS projects/programmes for the benefit of the victims of armed conflict or other situations of violence
  • Provide technical advice to allow for optimal assistance to the victims, while reinforcing and developing local networks and their MHPSS capacities
  • Evaluate continually the patterns of violence, the victims' situation and the MHPSS programs.
  • Analyse collected information, provide regular update reports and when necessary, adapt the humanitarian response accordingly.
  • Plan the community engagement in line with all the activities related to the Protection component
  • Propose adjustments or corrective measures when necessary; 
  • Facilitate training and/or informative sessions for the beneficiaries involved in project, particularly in Protection sector; 
  • Capacity building of local partner’s Staff.
  • Participate in needs assessments or other types of assessments, monitoring, and evaluation activities; 
  • Participate in the identification and selection of project beneficiaries according to set criteria, in consultation with communities if required; 
  • Report any suspicion of harm, including PSEA, during the implementation of project activities. 
  • Ensure daily quantitative and qualitative reporting in line with the project’s standard operating procedures.
  • Report on a weekly basis about activities planned and implemented.
  • Analyse and report on beneficiaries’ psychological and psychosocial status.
  • Complete intake forms “assessment form, follow up form, discharge, and monitoring form” for the beneficiaries and manage beneficiary data according to data protection protocols
  • Submit weekly and monthly reports to line manager.
  • Compile any other reports upon request of the line manager.

 

Community Engagement and Accountability: 

 

  • Ensure Accountability to Affected Populations in line with COOPI standards; 
  • Ensure gender and disability mainstreaming in all activities, with special attention to those who are marginalized and overlooked in community decision making aspects are adequately considered during the planning and implementation process.

 

External Relations and Representation: 

  • Establish and maintain contact with project interlocutors and stakeholders;
  • Establish and maintain contact with Sub-national protection cluster and different WG 
  • Facilitate the communication between community representatives, committees, local authorities and relevant stakeholders; 
  • Liaise with the main stakeholders involved in the project, in coordination with the Project Manager ; 
  • Organize and hold meetings with community members, CSOs/CBOs, and local authorities, including the locality and other government stakeholders, when needed and agreed with the project manager/assistant project manager. 

 

Other:  

  • Participate in donor visits and monitoring missions if required; 
  • Translate and/or interpret for COOPI staff and facilitate discussions and relations with project stakeholders; 
  • Perform general office work such as drafting reports, filing documents, photocopying, scanning, updating databases, analyzing and processing data, etc.; 
  • Report any problem encountered with accuracy and rapidly.

 

General Duties: 

  • Is aware of COOPI’s objectives and activities in Sudan.
  • Respects security rules at all time.
  • Pledges to respect and act in accordance with COOPI’s Code of Ethics, PSEA Policy, and other applicable organizational policies.
  • Replace other employees in their absence when necessary.
  • The staff member may be asked to perform duties and tasks not covered in this job description as well as to provide support to other functional units when requested and necessary.

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

  • Degree in Psychology or Counselling is required
  • Experience working with vulnerable groups, specifically persons with disabilities, victims of GBV, vulnerable children
  • Experience in related work within an NGO or organization in emergency or post-conflict setting
  • At least 2 years of Experience in community-based psychosocial support, PSS and/or MHPSS
  • Proven capacity in planning MHPSS support programs and community health interventions in line with the psychological and psychosocial consequences of violence
  • Significant experience in training and supervision processes
  • Willingness and ability to work among IDP, displaced populations
  • Good knowledge of community mobilization methods and tools
  • Ability to organize and prioritize workload and to cope with stress and high pressure
  • Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural team
  • Ability to work with partners(local and international actors)
  • Knowledge of the principles of referrals mechanisms and pathways
  • Experience using MS Windows and MS Office packages (Excel, Word, Powerpoint) for reporting.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience with international NGOs is a value;
  • Good written and spoken English, very good Arabic proficiency; 
  • Experience in the project location.
  • Good organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
