 Background:

General Objective:

 

Reporting to Deputy Head of Project the Agriculture Marketing Office is responsible for carrying out procurement activities, implementing technical measures and / or implementing social components within the framework of the specified project 1230 assignments.



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

  1. Take lead in identification of capacity gaps of farmers/pastoralist associations and producer groups, designing and implementing appropriate capacity building interventions that will enable them progress to socially and economically viable entities.
  2. Map out relevant actors in the targeted Agriculture value chains and facilitate linkages of small holder farmer Associations and individuals to various selected actors in order to improve their productivity, food security, incomes and overall resilience.
  3. Take lead in profiling, identification, equipping and capacity building of rural based agribusiness in selected agriculture value chains.
  4. Spear head activities related to beneficiaries’ access to improved farm inputs and veterinary services including smart subsidies, voucher systems and input fairs.
  5. Support youth access to market-led vocational skills training and apprenticeship in selected value chains.
  6. Introduce the project to relevant stakeholders and maintain a good and collaborative relationship with relevant stakeholders including Agriculture value chain actors, local representatives and community leaders and members.
  7. Support the implementing partner to implement all activities related to Agriculture value chain, often providing technical backstopping and giving constructive ideas.
  8. Take lead in identifying capacity gaps of the project staff and organizing/ conducting in-house capacity building sessions and recommending for external trainings.
  9. Lead in the planning and implementation of rapid assessments to gauge early outcomes/impacts of the project for specific target groups and advise the project on best implementation strategies.
  10. Collaborate with the relevant Government departments during implementation of field activities, soliciting their buy in and support at all stages of implementation.
  11. Work closely with the monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and Learning (MEAL)team to conduct studies, to capture data for measuring output, outcome and impact of the program; and to ensure accurate and timely flow of information from the field.
  12. Prepare and submit timely weekly, monthly, and quarterly workplans and reports that will be indicative of program progress during implementation. Respond to queries if and when necessary and maintain a proper filing system.
  13. Any other task as assigned by supervisor in line with the duties of the job.

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture, Agribusiness management, Business studies or any relevant discipline.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience working with INGOs and small holder farmers in production and marketing activities.
  • At least 1 year experience in working in the private sector, specifically agriculture input, output and post-harvest materials, or financial services or related field would be an added advantage
  • Experience in Agriculture/livelihoods projects and resilience is an added advantage
  • Good verbal and written English, communication, organizational, prioritization and negotiation skills.
  • Strong computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft office applications including word, excel, Power point and other relevant applications. 
  • Demonstrated flexibility, creativity and enthusiasm as well as a willingness to learn and to be continually adaptive within a dynamic and often self-directed working environment.
  • Excellent teamwork abilities, interpersonal and problem-solving skills, attention to detail and timeliness. 
  • Willingness to spend much time in the field and work closely with program target groups.
  • Strong organizational and report-writing skills.
  • Good knowledge and experience of Red Sea state and local context is preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of applying Do No harm frameworks concepts and approaches in high-risk security areas is an advantage.
