 Background:

Carry out all social-related activities, in order to ease the patient’s situation, to maximize his/her adherence to treatment and to improve his/her psycho-social condition.



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

  • Identify social needs of patients through a social assessment. Respond to the patient’s social needs, according to the scope of the project, by giving direct social support (as transport, food, legal advice,…) and/or refer to other social actors, in order to actively contribute to the improvement of their quality of living. 
  • Contact patients to follow up the evolution of their condition when needed (home visits, defaulter tracing) 
  • Participate in the creation of any material needed for the activities of social workers. Take care of social services facilities, materials and equipment in order to ensure continuity. 
  • Mapping and regular update of social partners, local authorities, other NGOs, and governmental social services in order to improve social services scope and responsiveness. 
  • Keep records, statistic and files updated, reporting any social activity, in order to prioritize and develop appropriate programs or projects.

Specific roles and responsibilities

This position will be based primarily in al Buluk Hospital with movement between al Buluk, al Nao and al Saudi Hospital during the initial period. The primary purpose of this position is to strengthen the referral pathway for SGBV services in North Omdurman with a focus on safe identification of female and male survivors and at al Buluk hospital and referral for SGBV care.

 

Assessment & Strategies

  • Being responsible for assessing the community perception of sexual violence, the perceived needs of survivors of sexual violence and reasons survivors do not seek health care
  • Be part of the implementation team for MSF’s SGBV approach in the project based on MSF’s overall strategy and procedures for SGBV

Outreach and awareness

  • Participate in training, support and follow up of the outreach team for SGBV awareness raising and community engagement to develop and improve awareness raising activities and community dialogue, discussion and messaging, materials and methods regarding the medical and psychological consequences of SV, availability of medical and psychosocial care and the importance of timely access after sexual violence 
  • Support MD with regular meetings with community groups, including women’s groups and support group focal points within the community.
  • Engage with the key target groups of trusted, respected community members and support services for outreach activities together with the outreach team

Medical and psychosocial care

  • Ensure respect of the care pathway and facilities for SGBV activities in line with MSF SGBV guidelines and MSF standards and procedures

Referral and coordination

  • Coordinate with the logisitics team to ensure food packages reach the families of discharged patients in al Buluk Stabilization Center
  • Ensure information on the available support services for survivors of SGBV is gathered, a referral pathway is in place and that referrals are monitored and feedback is received
  • Coordinate with the different formal and informal support services
  • Ensure confidentiality in all aspects of the pathway of care

Data Collection

  • Ensure relevant data is captured using the appropriate data tool, stored, with ensured confidentiality 

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

Education: Desirable degree in social work, midwifery, nursing, counseling, psychology or teaching.

 

Experience: Two years minimum in a similar social job; experience with MSF or other NGOs, desirable.     

 Experience working with survivors of gender-based violence or sexual violence or raising awareness and engaging communities about gender-based violence or sexual violence             desirable.

 Experience working in gender-based violence, protection or child protection desirable.

 Experience providing community awareness, information, education and communication activities or health promotion desirable.

 

Languages: Essential, local language; mission language will be a plus.

 

Knowledge: Essential computer literacy (word, excel and internet).
