 Background:

The International Committee of the Red Cross(ICRC), an impartial, neutral and independent organization striving to protect and assist the victims of war and internal violence, has been working in Sudan since 1978. The ICRC is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated person to fill the position of Protection Field Officer in Damazin.

Purpose: 

The Protection Field Officer contributes to the implementation and monitoring of ICRC Protection activities under the supervision of the Protection Delegate in the area of responsibility (AoR). Specifically, the Protection Field Officer supports and implements activities related to Protection of Family Links (PFL) and Management of the Deceased (MoTD), documentation and analysis of Protection of the Civilian Population (PCP) events and trends as well as the development of appropriate response strategies.



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

  • Contributes to the implementation of the PFL activities in the area of responsibility.
  • Ensures the proper monitoring and follow-up of PFL connectivity points in the area of responsibility, identifies needs and implements improvements/adaptations as required.
  • Collects and properly follows-up on the other PFL services like Red Cross Message /Salamats, TCs, etc. in line with the Delegation working procedures/workflows.
  • Contributes to RFL reports as required (i.e., monthly statistical analysis)
  • Supports in the distribution of PFL-related material assistance to National Societies branches.
  • Maintains a positive and productive working relationship with the local National Societies branches, Tracing Focal Points, volunteers and provides technical support related to PFL.
  • Contributes to the implementation of the PCP activities in the area of responsibility.
  • Support the Delegate in the collection and registration of PCP events/trends/information and supports the documentation of the humanitarian consequences of the conflict on the civilian population as per delegation guidelines/procedures, when appropriate 
  • Represents the ICRC vis-à-vis communities, individuals, authorities, and weapon bearers, explaining the ICRC’s mandate and activities, when appropriate and safe
  • Contributes to the development and maintains contact with the authorities, the National Societies, communities, etc., in line with the strategy and priorities of the PCP unit and under the supervision of the line manager.
  • Contributes to the implementation of MoTD activities in the area of responsibility.
  • Maintains a positive relationship with the local NS branches in relation to their MoTD activities and supports in the follow up of their needs and implementation of activities.
  • Contributes to the implementation of the budget for the AoR, in line with delegation guidelines/procedures. 
  • Follows up on all work-related messages and correspondence with the relevant contacts and departments.
  • Contributes to the collection and shares information so as to improve the ICRC’s understanding of the environment and humanitarian trends and responses.

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

  • University degree or relevant professional experience.
  • Excellent command of English 
  • Computer literacy.
  • 3-5 years’ previous professional experiences, for instance in the field
