 Background:

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), an impartial, neutral and independent organization striving to protect and assist the victims of war and internal violence, has been working in Sudan since 1978. The ICRC is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated person to fill the position of Protection Data Manager in Aljunaina.

Purpose:

Protection Data Manager 1 manages protection data and other information collected both internally and externally to support the ICRC’s activities on behalf of people entitled to protection under international humanitarian law and related decision-making.

Protection Data Manager assists the Mobile Protection Data Manager in managing issues (entry, control, technical aspects, and procedures) related to Management of Prot6 (analysis, procedures, updates, proposals, etc.), as well as management of data related to Tracing work (preservation, individual files management, proposals, etc.).



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

  • Carries out data processing; participates in setting data-entry procedures and participates in reviews of working procedures.
  • Promotes a good data-management system and ensures that it is of high quality by carrying out data controls
  • Provides statistics on protection activities for external reporting and ad-hoc figures for internal use in absence of Mobile Protection Data Manager
  • Provides training, coaching and advises users on RFL (Restoring Family Links) data.
  • Ensures timely reception of Protection Office Figures and their quality; enters Protection Office Figures into the PROT6 database.
  • Contributes to maintaining and management of the Tracing STM and the coherence of the incoming information with Prot6. New and old existing information.
  • Participate actively in Data control during the first semester/yearly statistics with the support of the Mobile Protection Data Manager.
  • Makes sure that the files are ordered in the filing cabinets, that documents in the files range from the oldest to the newest and that unnecessary copies are systematically removed.
  • Support in the preparation of files to be pre-archived or evacuated when possible or required.
  • Correct /remove unnecessary data when receiving cases from other delegation’s vis Interop.
  • Knows the procedures for the opening / follow up / closure of tracing cases and can explain / remined them Can analyse the on-going follow up of any tracing case and to propose adjustments according to the procedures.
  • Ensure that the follow up of a case and contacting the enquirer by the one/s responsible for a certain case is correctly and systematically done.
  • Liaises with the Tracing Field Officers in the sub delegations/offices for the reception of all necessary information and documents related Protection activities.
  • Supports the Mobile Protection Data Manager in finalizing and interpreting discrepancies in the consolidated statistics exercises.
  • Collects and shares information so as to improve the ICRC’s understanding of the environment and humanitarian trends and responses.

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

  • Previous experience with databases and data management (specialized software).
  • Information-management background.
  • Professional degree or equivalent experience.
    Excellent command of English.
    Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (knowledge of SQL or programming languages
