 Background:

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), an impartial, neutral and independent organization striving to protect and assist the victims of war and internal violence, has been working in Sudan since 1978. The ICRC is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated person to fill the position of Protection of Family Links (PFL) in Port-Sudan.

Purpose:

PFL Field Officer deals with the calls and whatsapp messages of the Protection of Family Link hotline and handles requests according to the working criteria and supports in the management of the Service and Task Manager messages messages (STM), when required. S/he actively contributes to the planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the Protection of Family Link activities in Sudan. S/He works under the direct supervision of the Protection of Family Link External Communication Manager and provides support to the Protection department and the ICRC structures in the field. S/He is based in Port Sudan delegation however, as Protection of Family Link Field Officer, s/he might be requested to carry out activities in the field supporting Protection field colleagues according to operational needs



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

  • Receives calls and whatsapp messages on the PFL hotline and handles requests according to the working criteria and supports in the management of the STM Service and Task Manager messages, when required.
  • When required, supports with the collection and follow up of TC - Tracing Request /AoA – Allegation of Arrest /AoD – Allegation of Detention, under the supervision of the line manager.
  • When more senior Protection of Family Link Field Officer are not available, receives visitors and ensures that visits are appropriately followed up and receive a timely response.
  • Support in compiling data, for the production of regular reports.
  • Supports with translation or interpretation when necessary.
  • Reports to the Line Manager information collected during the interaction with beneficiaries/visitors to contributes to the analyses of the security, socio-economic, cultural, and political environment in which the ICRC is working, shares relevant information with team members and reports any changes in the situation.
  • Fosters a constructive working environment (multidisciplinary approach, good team dynamics) among team members.
  • S/He performs any other Protection of Family Link related task requested by his/her direct line manager as per operational needs.
  • S/He provides support to other PFL activities during heavy workload.
  • During absences, s/he replaces other PFL Field Officers upon request.
  • Readiness to spend time in the field and willing to travel in all parts of the country, when necessary and possible.
  • Is aware of the delegation’s objectives and has a good knowledge of the Movement and other contacts relevant to the position.
  • Collects and shares information so as to improve the ICRC’s understanding of the environment and humanitarian trends and responses.
  • Represents the ICRC in an appropriate way during activities and avoids any activity that may reflect negatively on the ICRC’s image.
  • Takes responsibility for their own professional learning and development

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

  • University degree or relevant professional experience.
  • Excellent command of English.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Typically 2-3 years of professional experience overall
  • Experience as a social worker or call operator or in a similar field an asset.
