Pharmacist

 Background:

The International Committee of the Red Cross(ICRC), an impartial, neutral, and independent organization striving to protectand assist the victimsof war and internal violence,has been workingin Sudan since 1978. The ICRC is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated person to fill the position of Pharmacist in Port-Sudan.

Purpose: 

Under the supervision of the Quality Assurance Pharmacist (technical line manager), Pharmacist Responsible ensures the implementation of good storage and distribution practices (GSDPs) within the Logistics Department and the related quality management system (QMS). He also makes sure that the delegation complies with national regulatory requirements and that activities related to domestic purchases of health-care products (medicines and medical devices) are carried out according to the relevant procedures.



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

  • Ensures and monitors implementation of the QMS for Sudan delegation, in compliance with the current QMS structure.
  • Ensures that good distribution practices (GDPs) are implemented and that health-care products (medicines and medical devices) are handled properly so that they remain safe and effective.
  • Analyses and proposes improvement measures for all the above and alerts regional Quality Assurance Pharmacist where relevant.
  • Closely supervises physical inspections of purchased and received medical items, files complaints if needed, and keeps collected samples up-to-date for reference purposes.
  • Supports warehouse staff in creating supplier complaints and recording deviations, participates in investigating deviations (including inventory discrepancies) and customer complaints, and helps identify and implement corrective and preventive action (CAPA).
  • Facilitates continuous compliance by the medical warehouse with the WHO’s GSDP, in particular with respect to the risk of mix-ups, segregation of items requiring specific management (e.g. narcotics, hazardous substances), and environmental controls (e.g. routine temperature monitoring, cleaning, pest control).
  • Prepares periodic quality reports related to warehouse activities, including routine temperature monitoring, cleaning, pest control, deviations, complaints, and all quality-related information needed by the Pharmacist to prepare the annual quality review.
  • Facilitates and/or provides relevant training to warehouse staff.
  • Ensures the implementation of global, field and site standard operating procedures (SOPs) and other documents related to GSDP processes, including the writing and revision of such documents, training of staff, production of updates and filing.
  • Ensures that the activities of the Logistics Department comply with national legal requirements, and is accountable for the importation, storage and distribution of narcotics and controlled drugs.
  • Ensures that risks are mitigated by performing the controls assigned to his/her role as described in the Logistics Risk and Control Matrix.
  • Identifies potential domestic suppliers of pharmaceuticals or other health-care products (medical devices) and helps assess whether the suppliers comply with GDPs and the products respect relevant legal requirements.

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

  • Pharmacy degree (bachelor’s level).
  • Good command (spoken and written) of English /Arabic.
  • Computer proficiency, including in Microsoft Excel. 
  • Professional Experience required
  • Minimum six years’ experience working in a pharmaceutical company (in quality assurance or production).
