Wash Assistant

 Background:

Building on its long-lasting experience providing emergency response in Sudan, Acted is implementing a 12-months project aimed at addressing urgent needs of population affected by the current humanitarian crisis in Sudan following the recent conflict which erupted on April 15th 2023.

Job Description

Through an integrated multi-sectoral approach, the WASH Assistant will contribute to provide an integrated multi-sectoral emergency response to support vulnerable conflict-affected populations through coordination and delivery of essential lifesaving services through Mobile Camp Management and Camp Coordination (MCCCM) services in Southeast of Sudan (Gedaref, Blue Nile, White Nile, Sannar, North Kordofan and Jazirah States).

Under the WASH component of the project, the WASH Assistant will implement the following activities:

  • emergency water supply in MCCCM sites.
  • construction of emergency communal latrines/showers.
  • cleaning and maintenance of the sanitation facilities.
  • conduct hygiene promotion.

distribute hygiene, water, and dignity kits.

This is a mobile position, requiring frequent travel to Several States in Southwest Sudan (Gedaref, Blue Nile, White Nile, Sannar, North Kordofan and Jazirah States).

 

Under the authority of:

  • WASH Project Officer (direct supervision)
  • WASH Project Manager (functional supervision)

Responsible for:

Support to field-level WASH activities in White Nile, Sannar, Al Jazirah, Gedaref, Blue Nile, North Kordofan States.

Internal relations:

ACTED operational and project field teams and direct/indirect beneficiaries.

External relations:

Not expected

To support the implementation of WASH activities in a timely and professional manner, according to objectives, goals and indicators and in line with donor requirements and based on beneficiary needs, specifically:

  • emergency water supply in MCCCM sites;
  • construction of emergency communal latrines/showers;
  • cleaning and maintenance of the sanitation facilities;
  • conduct hygiene promotion.

 Duties and responsibilities:

  1. Communication coordination
  2. Support Program Officer in coordination with donor to ensure timely availability of requested items and reporting
  3. Work closely with site committees in mobilizing/sensitizing the targeted communities regarding the project activities and objectives.
  4. If required, liaison with other stakeholders such as clusters and any other relevant humanitarian actor to ensure smooth functioning of the project.
  5. If required, Liaison with the HAC and ministries for the efficient organization of the program and ensure that all the guidelines from donor and government are uphold during the project implementation.
  6. Project implementation
  7. Responsible to actively participate and organize program surveys and assessment, beneficiary identification and registrations, sensitization sessions, trainings and distributions in a safe and transparent manner and as per defined processes agreed in the project proposal
  8. Inform targeted communities about project objectives and activities as advised by the Program Manager and Program Officer
  9. Help stock keeper in consolidating the stock reports and cross check with the distribution list.
  10. Maintain all the program related filing, including but not limited to the distribution lists, training lists, sensibilization lists,
    1. Reporting
  11. Report on the program progress on daily bases to the Program Officer
  12. Support Program Officer in consolidating the information and cross check
  13. Reconcile the distribution list with stock keeper to ensure accurate information management, implement training and sensibilization attendance sheets
    1. Accountability to Communities and Beneficiaries
    2. Any other tasks as assigned by the Line Manager

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

  • Minimum of bachelor’s degree in engineering, WASH, public health, social sciences, statistics or related field
  • Proven 2 years’ experience in humanitarian program activities with an (I)NGO, preferably in the WASH sector
  • Experience in WASH activity support: community mobilization, construction, and distributions
  • Previous experience working in an (I)NGO’s is desirable.
  • Proficiency in the use of smartphones, computer (incl. email) required.
  • Committed to improve protection programming.
  • Excellent communication skills & ability to relay info clearly, concisely, and in an appropriate manner – ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Familiarity with the one or more of the areas(s) of intervention, as well as the area’s cultures and traditions is highly recommended.
  • Excellent Arabic and English verbal and written language skills.
  • Ability to travel to the field/provinces, according to the requirement of ACTED intervention areas in Sudan.
