WASH Officer
ADRA

ADRA Sudan has been operational in Sudan for over 40 years and currently leads humanitarian assistance efforts in conflict-affected Blue Nile, White Nile and West Darfur States, supporting IDPs, returnees, refugees and host communities. ADRA is also implementing urban programming supporting women projects in Khartoum state.ADRA Sudan’s current areas of programming include food Security and livelihoods, WASH, nutrition, Peace building and Conflict Resolution, Education and protection, with gender Equity and environment mainstreamed.

 Background:

Job Summary:

The WASH Officer will play a critical role in the planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of ADRA’s WASH projects in Geinena, West Darfur. The officer will work closely with community members, local authorities, and other stakeholders to ensure the successful delivery of WASH services. This is a short-term position for two months, requiring a candidate with a strong background in public health, environmental science, or a related field, and a commitment to improving water, sanitation, and hygiene conditions in underserved communities.



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

Key Responsibilities:

Program Implementation:

  • Develop and implement detailed project plans and schedules for WASH initiatives.
  • Oversee the construction and rehabilitation of water and sanitation facilities.
  • Ensure that WASH activities align with ADRA’s objectives and donor requirements.

Monitoring and Evaluation:

  • Design and implement monitoring and evaluation plans to assess project impact.
  • Collect, analyze, and report data to inform decision-making and improve project outcomes.
  • Prepare comprehensive progress reports for internal and external stakeholders.

Capacity Building:

  • Conduct training sessions for local staff, community leaders, and volunteers on WASH best practices.
  • Develop educational materials to promote hygiene awareness and behavior change.
  • Support community-led initiatives to sustain WASH improvements.

Coordination and Collaboration:

Coordinate with local authorities, NGOs, and community groups to ensure effective project implementation.

Represent ADRA at WASH sector meetings, workshops, and conferences.

- Maintain positive relationships with beneficiaries and key stakeholders.


 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Environmental Science, Civil Engineering, or a related field. A Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in implementing WASH projects in a humanitarian or development context.
  • Strong knowledge of WASH principles, policies, and standards.
  • Proven experience in project management, including planning, budgeting, and reporting.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in data collection and analysis.
  • Ability to work in challenging environments and under pressure.
  • Fluency in Arabic and English

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience in community mobilization and capacity building.
  • Knowledge of local WASH policies and regulations.
  • Familiarity with donor reporting requirements.
  • Ability to develop and deliver training programs.
