 Background:

Working in the Finance Department under the direction of the Finance specialist , the Sr, Finance Officer will ensure the accuracy and completeness of MTI accounting records and will have primary responsibility for managing the monthly accounting cycle.



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

Essential Job Responsibilities

 

  1. Review Purchase Request, Expense Reports, and Advances per delegated authority.
  2. Review Quotation Analysis, Purchase Order, and service Contacts per the delegated authority.
  3. Review cash and bank transactions in Navigator – After ensuring all the supporting documents are available, finance coding is correct etc.
  4. Ensure all financial vouchers are scanned completely on a weekly basis.
  5. Follow-up on outstanding advances contacts, vendors' payments, and records.
  6. Participate in Annual inventory & reconcile with stock records and navigator.
  7. Perform weekly cash count.
  8. Perform and/or facilitate month-end cash count as per the cash management policy.
  9. Do respective field bank account reconciliation.
  10. Submit month-end reporting packages to supervisor .
  11. Submit approved Field Cash Transfer Requests up to twice a month.

 

STAFF MANAGEMENT

 

  • Daily management of the finance assistant.
  • Oversee daily cash count with the finance assistant.
  • Manage the month-end accounting close process, ensuring the accuracy and completeness of the ledger, sub journals and all supporting documentation in all country offices.
  • Primary responsibility for maintaining the general ledger software files, including set up and maintenance of new project accounts, regular back up of files, etc.
  • Post and maintain filing of monthly journal entries.
  • Assist in the training and support of the finance Assistant in field offices, including answering daily questions, training new hires, making field visits, etc.
  • Assist the Finance Manager in responding to audit inquiries.
  • Conduct himself/herself both professionally and personally in such a manner as to bring credit to MTI and to not jeopardize its humanitarian mission.

  • Create and sustain a work environment of mutual respect where team members strive to achieve excellence.

  • Supervise, hire and orient new team members as necessary.
  • Provide team members with information, tools and other resources to improve performance and reach objectives.
  • Contribute to country team-building efforts, help team members identify problem-solving options and ensure the integration of all team members into relevant decision-making processes.

 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

EDUCATION, LICENSES, &CERTIFICATIONS                                                                                                                                    

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accountancy, Business Administration/Management, or other relevant fields
  • Preferred: Master degree in relevant field.
  • Additional finance related trainings about donor regulations, project management or humanitarian standards or related fields are advantages

 EXPERIENCE                                                                                                                                    

  • Minimum 5 years of experience required in relevant field – finance/accountancy, operations management or business management is required.
  • Experience of working with other INGOs or other non-profit organizations in a similar role is preferable.
  • Experience of working with UN-funded projects is required.
  • Experience in logistics, procurement, and routine administrative office support is required.
  • Experience of working in humanitarian and emergency setting with a similar role is highly preferable.

 

 

 KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES                                                                                                                                    

  • Dedication to the mission of Medical Teams International.
  • Knowledge of Financial, taxation and business management processes.
  • Knowledge of HR functions including pay & benefits, recruitment, onboarding and off boarding, and staff development.
  • Knowledge of Sudan taxation and labour laws, especially for not-for-profits.
  • Skilled in using Financial Management software, human resources database, as well as Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Commitment to organizational strengthening and programmatic growth in accordance with humanitarian needs.
  • Good understanding of humanitarian standards, protection and accountability.
  • Strong organizational and administrative capacity, including proficiency in budget development and management.
  • Excellent English Language Skills (Written, Spoken).
  • Good report writing skills.
  • Skilled in coaching managers and capacity building.
  • Ability to work independently and proactively with high level of attention to details.
  • Ability to hold staff accountable to work responsibilities, organizational protocol and ethical standards.
  • Very good interpersonal skills and team player.
  • Excellent and diplomatic communication and representation skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to learn new processes and systems.
