 Duties and responsibilities:

Primary Functions:

The Health and Nutrition Project Manager will be based in Habila Locality and will work closely with the Program Manager II. S/he is responsible for overseeing the field implementation of Health and Nutrition activities under UNICEF Funded project “Integrated Lifesaving Health, Nutrition Interventions in two localities in West Darfur State”. The Project Manager will coordinate closely with the UNICEF - H&N team, supervisor, support team, and senior management to ensure harmonization of all integrated health, nutrition, and education messages to communities. 

The PM responsibilities also include coordination with health and nutrition project officers, carry out full coordination with MEAL and program Quality unit to have all MEAL binders in place for the project, likewise, coordinate for proper reporting to the MEAL team, provision of technical support to health and nutrition activities as well as conduct regular field site visits. The PM will provide monthly/ and on the job trainings to ensure high quality health and nutrition services.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Supervise health and nutrition project staff.
  • Assist the PM II, deputy head of programming and head of programming in overall management, supervision, oversight and implementation of Health and Nutrition activities.
  • Supervise the performance of the project officers and community health workers involved in health and nutrition programs.
  • Strengthen the project networks to effectively response to current huge humanitarian need and to the affected population.
  • Organize participatory training events and involve in development of IEC materials.
  • Lead the team to develop a robust monitoring and evaluation system and monitor social and behavioral change aspects, especially related to community participation in the projects, including gender and other vulnerability aspects.
  • Liaise with other relevant projects and sectors (Food and WASH) to ensure consistent messages and a coordinated approach at state and locality levels.
  • Monitor the supplies and materials for project activities; prepare list of materials needed and coordinate with logistics and admin departments for timely delivery of materials.
  • Supervise the day-to-day activities of project staff.
  • Provide technical support and creative solutions to partners to assist in the provision of quality and timely implementation of health and nutrition activities. 
  • Represent CRS in health and nutrition coordination meetings with SMoH, WFP, WHO and UNICEF.
  • Always ensure compliance with CRS Security protocol, including for CRS Project officers, Field Officers and Assistant POs.
  • Perform additional tasks as requested by the Program Manager II, Deputy Head of Programming, Head of Programming and CRS Management.
  • Develop training and communication materials on Health and Nutrition related topics and perform cascaded trainings for SMOH seconded staff.
  • Work to ensure robust accountability component feedback from beneficiaries is responded to and the response recorded in MEAL logs in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate closely with the PM ll, and relevant technical departments to properly mainstream Safeguarding, Gender, and Equality standards in the project. 

 

Project Management and Development

  • Actively participate in the information sharing, program improvement and strategic planning through linkages with all project staff, stakeholder forums, and other NGOs to ensure integrated, coordinated, and timely project implementation. 
  • Jointly review reports with all stakeholders and PM II to consolidate data into detailed monthly and quarterly work plans for activities according to the project targets, timeframe, and budget. 
  • In collaboration with the project team, and MEAL & program quality unit, monitor and evaluate the impact of programming, track activities and refine activities if changes are required. 
  • Compile weekly and monthly activity reports with support for the documentation and dissemination of project achievements, challenges, lessons learned and best practices.
  • Represent CRS to community leaders, communities, local authorities, government officials, NGOs as well as Health and Nutrition forums as needed.

In coordination with PM II and/or HoP, work closely with and support any implementing partners in project management.


 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

Qualifications:

  • Sudanese national
  • University degree in health, nutrition, or public health 
  • At least five years of relevant experience in Public Health including nutrition, with three years working in an international NGO 
  • Experience in implementing community mobilization, IEC and SBCC approaches highly desirable.
  • Experience with applying health communication concepts, tools, practices, and procedures.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with health and nutrition background.
  • Effective team leader/member with strong organizational, supervisory and management skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook email strongly preferred.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English and Arabic.

 

Skills 

  • Comprehensive and up-to-date understanding of health and hygiene promotion issues. 
  • Experience in community mobilization, facilitate formal and informal trainings, and carry out supportive supervision of SMoH seconded staff and community health promoters.
  • Demonstrable training and facilitation skills. 
  • Experience in living or working in a rural community. 
  • Ability to seek and utilize lessons learnt, experience, success from other projects

 

Travel - Must be willing and able to travel at least _____65____% of the time to field locations in the country.

Supervisory Responsibilities: The project MEAL officer and two project officers are reporting to the project manager.

 

Key Working Relationships: 

Internal: PM II, Deputy Head of Programming, Head of Programming, state office manager, supply chain staff, finance staff, Habila and Foro Baranga area managers

External: State ministry of health staff, UNICEF staff and WHO staff.
