Background: Job Title: Protection Assistant Duty Station: Red Sea/Port Sudan (Roving to other DRC project areas).
DRC Sudan DRC has been present in Sudan since 2004, delivering life-saving programming in protection, emergency response, shelter, food security and livelihoods, disaster risk reduction, camp management, and humanitarian mine action. DRC has implemented projects in Central Darfur, South Darfur, South Kordofan, Gedaref, Kassala, and Khartoum states. Sudan hosts one of the largest displaced populations in Africa, with over 3.7 million internally displaced people and over 1.1 million refugees from South Sudan, Ethiopia, Eritrea, the Central African Republic, Chad, Yemen, and Syria. Against a background of political crisis, Sudan faces economic and social turmoil, with sharp increases in food and energy costs, further exacerbated by disease outbreaks and ongoing conflict.
The overall purpose of the role: The Protection Assistant will undertake protection/human rights assessments in the areas with communities that have been displaced due to new shocks or protection risks (or returnees). His/her role will be to identify the protection concerns and risks of the population of concern by obtaining information through focus group discussions and key informant interviews with those affected, particularly with Persons with Specific Needs (PSNs), conducting age/gender/diversity -appropriate interviews, observation, and providing psychosocial first aid and psychosocial support (PFA - PSS). The protection assistant will also be responsible for running the protection desk, identifying and providing tailored assistance through individual protection assistance. Additionally, conduct safe and dignified referrals to the relevant actors in the site, and community awareness-raising sessions. Also, the protection assistant will throughout his/her work ensure confidentiality and strictly adhere to the DRC Code of Conduct. |
