 Background:

The nutrition officer is responsible for coordinating and delivery of high-quality, nutrition activities, resulting in immediate and lasting change for children. The nutrition officer is also responsible for data collection and report writing, he can provide technical support to the facility and frontline staff and ensure all nutrition interventions are meeting quality standards.

Support school meal project implementation for the Red Sea -in two localities Port Sudan and Dordaib as requested by the technical supervisor, or Programme Implementation Manager.

 Duties and responsibilities:

  • Supervise School cooks and assistants in all target schools- under the school meal project and identify areas for training and support.
  • Oversee implementation of school meal activities according to project work plan and Budget, including budget forecasting, and development of spending plans in cooperation with the Programme Implementation Manager and Finance Team. 
  • Train cooks in all possible food diversification using local food items, which are rich with nutrient values,
  • Ensure hygiene, cleaning and other needs are well noticed in food preparation in target schools in the SM project,
  • Coordinates with other SC sectors to ensure integration and complimentarily of Nutrition programs (WASH, Health, FSL, and Education and Child protection).
  • Undertake field visits to the project target schools and recommend project feasibility for SCI interventions, take follow-up action on project quality improvements, and prepare relevant reports.
  • Follow data gathering and monitoring systems ensuring that rigorous quality standards are maintained.
  • Ensure that Nutrition programs follow standardized protocols, policies, and guidelines, as prescribed by the MOH, UNICEF and WHO and consistent with established best practices.
  • Actively participate in appropriate coordination groups such as the Nutrition cluster system, and nutrition working groups at the state level and represent SCI Nutrition programs in nutrition-related assessments and forums in liaison with partners, donors, governments, and NGOs.
  • Support cooks in each target school in timely management of the supply of food items required before ample time in every working school day.
  • Support cooks in preparing their food menu on a weekly/monthly basis in all target schools.
  • Ensure the ongoing capacity building of cooks as students’ daily meal needs and budget limits,
  • Held regular meetings with cooks to review progress achieved against target and pick any applicable action points, and issues related to the program and share with the PTA at each school and the project implementation manager.
  •  Document success stories and lessons learnt for future programming.
  • Prepare and submit weekly and monthly reports as per the work plan and provide recommendations to address issues and concerns encountered within the previous reporting period.
  • Perform other tasks and responsibilities as discussed with his/her supervisor deemed necessary for the implementation of the program.

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

  • BSc in Nutrition, Public Health, Nursing, or any other related field.
  • Computer skills in MS packages (windows, word, excel, etc).
  • Ability to travel and work in deep field areas.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Arabic Languages.

  • Strong skills in problem analysis and solution scenarios.
  • Willingness to learn and share information.
