 Background:

CARE International in Sudan has received funding from the European Union to implement the Promoting Inclusive Markets and Economic Empowerment (PRIME) project in South Kordofan and East Darfur States. In South Kordofan, the project will be implemented in Al-Rashad, Abujubeiha and Abbasiya localities, whereas in East Darfur, the project will be implemented in Bahar Alarab, Abu Karinka, and El Daein localities. The project aims to contribute to sustainable and resilient livelihoods and food security in rural communities in the states of South Kordofan and East Darfur that are most affected by food insecurity, climate change, and conflicts. 



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

The VSLA Officer will provide support in the implementation of VSLA initiatives through capacity building of project participants, partners and establishing linkages with financial service providers, and supporting growth of VSLAs with farmer field and Business Schools and rolling out the VSLA methodology in the target villages for increased resilience.

  • Prepare a detailed VSLA implementation plan and ensure the respective team members understand well and properly implement.
  • Establish, equip, and monitor existing VSLAs and create new VSLA groups in the target communities.
  • Identify technical capacity and challenges for the project participants and VSLA facilitators skills /knowledge on VSLAs, Business Management, etc. and plan for the relevant capacity trainings.
  • support access to financial resources through VSLAs and linkages with MFIs.
  • Facilitate stakeholder, traders, and financial services providers engagements as part of establishing strategic linkages for VSLAs.
  • Document lessons learned and capture stories of change on VSLAs.
  • Ensure partner’s involvement in the VSLA activities and build their capacity on VSLA methodology.
  • Participate in program review with partners on the implementation of the VSLA activities in their organizations
  • Be aware of the Care International Safety and Security Management Plan (SSMP) and always comply with it.
  • Be aware of CARE’s commitments to Gender and Diversity and strive to uphold them.

 


 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

  • Holds a minimum of a university degree in Agri-business Management, development studies, Economics, Business Management, or any related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of work experience in VSLA programming. 
  • Ability to write reports of high quality. 
  • Sound knowledge of entrepreneurship and agricultural value chain development related activities.
  • Sound knowledge of farmer field and Business School approaches
  • Demonstrated experience in private sector engagement, market linkages, and supporting income-generating activities. 
  • Work under minimum supervision and should be proactive.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team, understanding community approaches, and problem-solving techniques. 
  • Good report writing and communication skills. 
  • Excellent organizational skills and experience with budgets and tracking project resources.
  • Ability and Willingness to Travel to locations outside of Office and live in basic conditions.
