 Background:

CARE International in Sudan has received funding from the European Union to implement the Promoting Inclusive Markets and Economic Empowerment (PRIME) project in South Kordofan and East Darfur States. In South Kordofan, the project will be implemented in Al-Rashad, Abujubeiha and Abbasiya localities, whereas in East Darfur, the project will be implemented in Bahar Alarab, Abu Karinka, and El Daein localities. The project aims to contribute to sustainable and resilient livelihoods and food security in rural communities in the states of South Kordofan and East Darfur that are most affected by food insecurity, climate change, and conflicts.



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

The Program Officer will be responsible for the implementation of cross cutting program activities, including food security and livelihoods, nutrition sensitive agriculture, water supply interventions in the context of South Kordofan, as per guidelines and protocols specified in each intervention area, and  in close coordination with line ministries, while at the same time engaging the private sectors, market actors as well as  community groups including VSLAs and Farmer field and Business Schools (FFBS).

  • Lead day-to-day implementation of all aspects of the PRIME program, including community engagement activities, working with community groups including VSLAs, FFBS and other business groups as well as coordination with line ministries.
  • Under the direction of the Senior Livelihoods officer and Program Manager, develop and maintain relationships with sub grantees, producer groups, youth and women associations.
  • Coordinate with the seconded field staff from MOP&ERs in following up on project activities implemented at the community level.
  • Assess and identify water points that can be expanded to support the establishment of nutrition gardens.
  • Support partners on activity-level M&E efforts, ensuring quality, reliability, and consistency in data collection efforts using program M&E templates.
  • Help identify lessons learned from project implementation and facilitate the incorporation of those lessons into the activity development cycle.
  • Be aware of the Care International Safety and Security Management Plan (SSMP) and always comply with it.
  • Be aware of CARE’s commitments to Gender and Diversity and strive to uphold them.
  • Promote CARE’s core values at all times.

 


 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

  • Holds a minimum of a degree in agriculture, economics, development studies and any other relevant qualification to the scope of the project.
  • At least two years’ experience in implementing Food Security, Resilience and Livelihood projects focusing on, agriculture development, provision of agriculture inputs, market linkages, private sector engagement, setting up of demonstration plots, farmer field and business schools, value chain development, Market systems, farmer training, IGAs, Gender, and protection. 
  • Experience with water supply services, particularly establishment and rehabilitation of water points that can be expanded to support the establishment of nutrition gardens. The successful candidate should be familiar with CARE International in Sudan Programming principles, with the below desired qualifications and experience: 
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team, understanding community approaches, and solving problem-solving techniques. 
  • Proven knowledge of cross-cutting issues such as DRR and gender.
  • Work under minimum supervision and should be proactive.
  • Ability and Willingness to Travel to locations outside of Office and live in basic conditions.
