 Duties and responsibilities:

Job Summary 

 

CRS is looking for a Peacebuilding Senior Project Officer (Peacebuilding SPO) to support the implementation of its USAID Sudan-funded People-to-People Insijam (harmony in Arabic) Project. The Insijam Project aims to lay the foundation for reconciliation, peace, and sustainable development among people in conflict in East and Central Darfur. As the Peacebuilding Senior Project Officer, you will lead the implementation of core peacebuilding activities of the Insijam Project in East Darfur. You will facilitate the achievement of project objectives by planning, coordinating, and reporting on all core peacebuilding activities and providing technical guidance and advice to staff and implementing partners. Your coordination and relationship management skills will ensure that the project applies best practices and constantly works towards improving the impact of its benefits to those we serve. The Peacebuilding SPO will be responsible for the smooth, cost-effective, efficient, and timely implementation of core peacebuilding activities including monitoring, evaluation, and reporting on activities. 

 

Job Responsibilities

 

  • Oversee the day-to-day implementation of core peacebuilding activities in assigned project localities.
  • Develop implementation tools including detailed implementational plans and annual work plans
  • Planning and mobilizing for core peacebuilding activities in the assigned localities, whilst ensuring that activities are conducted in coordination with other projects and actors in the same locality. 
  • Work with the MEAL SPO to monitor and document the progress of activity implementation and ensure that high standards are achieved in accordance with CRS and donor guidelines and per the Annual Work Plan (AWP) and the Accountability Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Plan (AMELP).
  • Participate in the program design process including assessments, learning events and coordination meetings.
  • Represent the Insijam project and CRS in relevant cluster coordination forums at the field level.
  • Coach and mentor partner staff and community-level peace-building personnel and networks. 
  • Prepare periodic and ad hoc technical reports as per the reporting calendar and/or as directed by the Project Director and as required by donors, CRS/Sudan management and other stakeholders including Sudan Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).
  • Support other project activities as needed. 

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

Basic Qualifications

 

  • University degree in Conflict Management, Peace Building, Social Sciences and/or related subjects.
  • Training and experience in implementing peacebuilding and/or protection projects. 
  • At least four (4) years of experience as a Project Officer especially under USAID-funded projects. 
  • A good understanding of USAID’s rules and regulations, and compliance requirements is an added advantage.
  • Good facilitation, representational and communication skills. 
  • Experience in developing and conducting training in rural contexts with limited literacy. 
  • Proven experience working through and building partnerships – particularly with local CSOs.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Cross-cutting knowledge of conflict sensitivity, protection, gender, supply chain chains and safeguarding.
  • Understanding and application of adaptative management approaches is highly desirable.
  • Direct community and stakeholder engagement experience particularly in conflict and post-conflict environments.
  • Field experience in Darfur and/or similar contexts.
  • Flexibility to travel and work in diverse contexts across Darfur
  • Hands-on staff management experience and experience in coaching and mentoring supervisees. 

 

Required/Desired Foreign Language: A good command of English and Arabic is required.

 

Travel Required: Regular travel within East Darfur localities, and occasional travel to other Darfur states
