Practical Action helps people find solutions to some of the world’s toughest problems, made worse by catastrophic climate change and persistent gender inequality. Our aims are to:

 

 

  • Make agriculture work better for smallholder farmers, many of them women, so they can adapt to climate change and achieve a good standard of living.
  • Help more people harness the transformational effects of clean affordable energy and reduce avoidable deaths caused by smoke from indoor stoves and fires.
  • Make cities in poorer countries cleaner, healthier places to live and work.
  • Build disaster resilience into the lives of people threatened by hazards – reducing the risk of hazards and minimizing their impact on lives and livelihoods.

Consultancy Purpose: 

 

Under the guidance and direct supervision of the Head of Grants & Business Development, the Grants and Business Development Officer (Consultant) will be responsible in supporting the (HBD) in planning and implementing grants programs, researching funding opportunities, tracking results in PA systems, as well as contributing to proposal development and ensuring compliance with donors’ policy and requirement are followed properly in the organization. 

 



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

  1. Participation in proposals/concepts and project ideas preparation and response to any comments.
  2. Supporting in updating PAMs and GMS (OCHA) systems under the supervision of the HBD.
  3. Attend OCHA sectors monthly routine meetings and development of humanitarian response plans.
  4. Support proposal budgets to ensure consistency and accuracy across projects. Design, draft, refine, and finalize budgets and budget narratives (as needed) that are reflective of program design costs.
  5. Coordinate with and support country program finance and program staff on proposals, providing guidance and feedback on workplans, deadlines, and proposal parameters.
  6. Support the Head of Business development in donor-specific program scoping in advance of anticipated calls, including pre-development of concept notes and donor feedback solicitations for specific programmatic elements/ideas.
  7. Be responsible for the coordination with country programs and partners on documents needed.
  8. Provide templates and guidance to program teams.
  9. Ensure adherence to record keeping as per donor and Practical Action Internal requirements. Monitor application and address gaps as needed.
  10. Ensure timely closure of finance audit findings related to donor compliance; participate in preparation, implementation and monitoring of related action plans.
  11. Participate to site visits with the giddiness of the HBD to partners to assess adequacy of internal controls, compliance with applicable laws and regulations, and partner policies and procedures. Report findings to program management including proposed follow-up with sub-grantees based on issues surfaced.
  12. Perform ongoing monitoring and assessment of partner capacity to record and post transactions.
  13. Preparing reports to the HBD to support identifying staff and partner capacity gaps and providing tailored capacity building plans with as appropriate. 
  14. Support the HBD to oversee and roll out safeguarding measures and any cross-cutting policies.

 

Other:

  • Perform any other related duties commensurate with the level and grade of the role which may from time to time be requested by the line manager.

 

Internal and External Relationships:

  • The Consultant will report directly to the Head of Grants and Business Development. There will also be close collaboration with the Projects team, Area coordinators and the remaining PA team.

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience:
  • A bachelor’s degree in business administration, or any other relevant study. 
  • A master’s degree in a relevant field is an advantage.
  • At least 2 years of relevant work experience in humanitarian, development with an international INGO.
  •  Trends and developments within grants management.

 

 

Skills, Abilities and Competencies:

 

  • Ability to work under pressure and adhere to strict deadlines, providing accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Exceptional communication skills, verbal and written, especially in a multi-cultural and multi-linguistic context and targeting a variety of audiences, including donor agencies, government, and international society.
  • Ability in building capacity, providing training and technical assistance.
