About CRS

CRS’ relief and development work is accomplished through programs of emergency response, HIV, health, agriculture, education, microfinance, and peacebuilding.

 

NAMA (Arabic for ‘growth’) is a 12-month project funded by GIZ that aims to expand livelihood opportunities for rural communities in Gedaref. The project has been designed by building on successes from previous and current livelihood projects of CRS and will focus on supporting smallholder farmer groups and market entrepreneurs to start engaging in micro business opportunities and on market entrepreneurs to engage collectively to increase business opportunities.

 

CRS seeks to hire a Gender Officer (Sudanese National only) to oversee the designing, planning, management, and implementation of gender integration into Nama programming at all levels.



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

Job Summary:

 

The post holder will contribute to the implementation of Nama gender activities by working directly with program team, partners and community members, local partners by providing technical guidance and support to Nama project participants at all levels. She/he will oversee the designing, planning, management and implementation of gender integration into Nama programing. 

 

Roles and Key Responsibilities: 

 

  • Work with the program team to design and implement gender-responsive initiatives
  • Lead assigned project activities 
  • Work closely with the MEAL Team, and project leads to ensure gender indicators are included and reported upon, and all data are disaggregated by age, sex, and disability status in MEAL frameworks, including projects’ Indicator Tracking Table.
  • Provide technical assistance to partners on practical and gender-responsive guidance to increase female participation in and benefits for women of livelihood activities supported by Nama. 
  • Develop team capacity by designing and implementing training in gender integration and planning. 
  • Ensure that Nama program activities Do-No-Harm and not imposing any gender-related risks.
  • Develop practical guidelines for the program team on gender issues to be considered in each of the locations of the Nama Project. These guidelines should be based on practical knowledge of the social and cultural context of the project location.

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

Basic Qualifications 

  • University qualification in any subject but a livelihoods or development related area is preferred. 
  • At least five years professional work experience, including at least 3 years of team and program or operations management.
  • Strong results-focused competencies in the coordination of multiple partners and activities, in program planning, implementation and reporting.
  • Experience in gender programming 

Required Languages

  • Fluency in writing and speaking English and Arabic
  • Knowledge of local accents is a preference 

 

Travel - Must be willing and able to travel in deep field up to 60-65%.
