 Background:

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), an impartial, neutral, and independent organization striving to protect and assist the victims of war and internal violence, has been working in Sudan since 1978. The ICRC is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated person to fill the position of Driver Light Vehicles in Port Sudan

 

Purpose:  

 

The Light Vehicles Driver transports people and goods in a safe and timely manner, in accordance with ICRC rules and regulations and national traffic laws.



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

  • Drives light vehicles to transport people and/or material in strict adherence to internal security rules and national traffic laws.
  • Constantly monitors security conditions on the road. 
  • Ensures that goods are stored inside the vehicle according to local, international and ICRC safety standards (attachment and distribution of goods, etc.).
  • Checks their assigned vehicle(s)' equipment, general functioning and body condition and ensures that it is kept fuelled and clean inside and out.
  • Carries out preventative maintenance and minor repair on ICRC vehicles and ensures that all service and repair forms are correctly filled out and forwarded for all jobs carried out
  • Checks that trips have been authorized where necessary.
  • Immediately reports accidents, defects and/or missing equipment to management.
  • Can act as head of convoy as needed (in charge of the driver(s), application of security rules and time-frame for the convoy).

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

  • Secondary School or Equivalent with additional vocational training in mechanics or another relevant field
  • 2-4 years of experience as a driver or in a similar position
  • Experience in a similar position with ICRC an asset
  • Conversational in English and Arabic
  • Intermediate level in computer skills
  • General Driving license for at least 5 years; Succeeded in ICRC Driving test
  • Very good knowledge of the geographically assigned environment
  • Master 4/4 and VHF use
  • Basic mechanical skills
  • Good physical condition
  • Skilled in the following competencies: Adapting & Learning, Teamwork, Planning, Organization & Assessment; Communication (Ability to express views and ideas); Security Management
