Main Purpose of Job: 

 

Under the supervision of the Health Manger and the Emergency Response Coordinator, the Medical Doctor will be responsible for the planning, implementation, and monitoring of the lifesaving health & nutrition program activities in Medani state in all relevant localities. The Medical Doctor will work with other senior staff of the health team as well as with Field Manager, environmental health, supply chain, human resource, and finance department to ensure effective implementation of the integrated health program. The Medical Doctor will be based in Medani Town and will need to undertake daily/weekly visits to the field sites in Wad Medani, Alkamleen, Al Jezira East localities and throughout the state.



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

Program management:

  • Acquaint oneself on the project outputs, indicators, activities, and budget to ensure smooth implementation of activities. 
  • Plan and coordinate timely and quality implementation of health activities in supported health facilities. 
  • Plan and coordinate the supply of drugs, medical supplies, and other items to supported HFs. 
  • Ensure procurement of inputs & recruitment of staff for the project are initiated on timely manner. 

 Technical Monitoring and Program Quality

  • Provide technical supervision and support to SMOH health workers in IRC Supported HFs.
  • Ensure that health programs utilize standardized protocols, policies, and guidelines, as prescribed by the Ministry of Health and WHO/UNICEF.
  • Ensure that program activities are consistent with established best practices.
  • Oversee the collection and timely reporting of data and statistics for the project in line with national, internal and donor requirements.
  • Ensure regular follow up on project indicators and achievement of the project targets.
  • Ensure appropriate follow-up and decision-making on data relevant to the project activities.
  • Ensure all stakeholders of SMOH are provided with updates, following the established reporting structures.
  • Support in program performance analysis and course correction measures in collaboration with the other health teams.

Program Development and Reporting

 

• Participate in the program development for Al Jezira state through needs identification and collecting information to support new business development.

• Monitor evolving needs of the target communities and recommend adjustment to programmatic priorities as necessary.

• Actively participate in drafting of quality and timely internal and external reports

 

Coordination and representation

 

• Build strong relationship with SMOH, community leaders and other stakeholders in the state

• Collaborate with other sectors to ensure a holistic approach in line with IRC integrated program strategy.

• Represent IRC in health coordination meetings in the health cluster and other meetings

• Ensure good coordination with other departments. 

   To carry out any other duties as assigned by the Health Manager.


 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

 

• Work Experience: Minimum 3 years previous work experience.

 

Demonstrated Skills and Competencies:

 

• Experience in project management in humanitarian organizations 

• Experience staff management and developing staff capacity 

• Ability to write clear and concise reports to meet required reporting deadlines 

• Able to work independently while being a strong team player 

• Competence with Windows, Microsoft Office 

• Proficient in English language (written and spoken) and in Arabic language (spoken) is required. 

 

Computer/Other Tech Requirements:

  • Good competency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
