FIELD EXPERT/AGRONOMIST

 Background:

Under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative (FAOR), Deputy FAOR and Assistant  FAOR (Programme)in Sudan , and under Direct Supervision of the senior Agronomist in FAO Sudan Country Office-Khartoum, as well as under the guidance and supervision of the team leader at the FAO state office, the incumbent will perform the following tasks:



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

  1. Support FAO’ Team Leader in contributing to the the implementation of the ongoing BHA project and other FAO emergency interventions in Sudan.
  2. Ensure in the field timely delivery of agriculture inputs (seeds, tools and others) to the beneficiaries 
  3. Support the development of technical specifications of agriculture inputs planned by FAO;
  4. To participate in the selection process of project beneficiaries and implementing partners (IPs) ;
  5. Ensure timely delivery of the different projects’ inputs to IPs as per the Letter of Agreement (LoAs);
  6. Support the preparation and implementation of a monitoring plan for each signed LoA in consultation with the respective IPs/SP and submit regular reports;
  7. Participate in the preparation of appropriate tools for monitoring the IPs’ fieldwork and the results achieved, in consultation with the other staff of the office and the technical coordinators in FAO Khartoum. 
  8. Liaise with other organizations that provide agricultural support in the state in order to exchange experiences, and avoid overlapping;
  9. Participate in the preparation of a comprehensive evidence-based monitoring report for each completed LoA, after the completion of the LoA, indicating what kind of impacts the activity may have on the families, children, women, men, elderlies and persons with disabilities in the targeted community;
  10. Contribute in Co- leading of the FSL sector at state level and share relevant information with members, state level authorities and FAO Khartoum;
  11. Participate in the inter-agency needs assessments and/or food security and livelihoods assessments to be conducted by the line ministries and/or FSL Sector Partners;
  12.  In consultation with the Sector Coordinators in the Country Office, regularly collect, analyze and update relevant information about all key issues related to agriculture, horticulture, environment, NRM, land and water, markets and food security, in Sinnar  State.
  13. Perform any other related task as requested by the team leader or the FAO Khartoum office

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

  • Minimum M.SC. Degree in Agriculture or other related subjects;
  • At least 7 years working experience;
  • Working knowledge (level C) of the FAO official language used for communication within the country (English) and working knowledge of the local language (Arabic) required.
  • Good computer skills in at least MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook etc.).
  • Ability to work with accuracy and under pressure to meet deadlines;
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze complex issues and propose effective solutions;
  • Demonstrated communication skills, both orally and in writing;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with people of the different targeted communities in the state.
  • Extent of familiarity with the geographical region is considered a strong asset;
  • Experience and working knowledge of FAO policies and procedures would be an asset;
