Overall purpose of the role: Under the overall supervision of the FSL Team Leader, the FSL Assistant will support the FSL Officers in the implementation of activities in the assigned area of responsibility: community mobilization, assessment and distribution of food and seeds for agriculture, training in agronomic skills and in harvest handling and management. The job holder monitors the usage of inputs, and provides support in organizing trainings, as guided by FSL Officer, in accordance with recommended methodologies and tools, and in line with DRC policies and guidelines. He/she will be working in cooperation with DRCís Livelihoods and Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEAL) teams and in collaboration with local authorities and communities. The Livelihoods Assistant works under the direct supervision of FSL Officers and overall management of FSL Team Leader.

 Duties and responsibilities:



To achieve the overall and specific positionís objectives the job holder tasks and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Community mobilization
  • Establishing and maintaining good relations and linkages with humanitarian actors in the field and other formal or informal stakeholders
  • Organizing and conducting rapid needs assessments
  • Coordinating and managing distribution of inputs in a transparent and accountable way
  • Organizing data collection
  • Providing logistic support in organizing trainings.
  • Any other tasks assigned by supervisor.


 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

Experience and technical competencies: (include years of experience) 

  • 3 years of experience with NGO or other development actors including at least two years in FSL sector
  • Ability to work in the field.
  • Experience working in and familiarity with Gedaref context.
  • Good communication skills
  • Computer skills (especially MS Excel and MS Word) is an asset.

Education: (include certificates, licenses etc.)

  • BSc, preferably in agriculture 

Languages: (indicate fluency level)

  • Fluency in spoken and written Arabic.
  • Basic spoken and written English.

  • Project participants and other community members
