Sayara provides complex monitoring, evaluation, research, and learning (MERL) and social and behavior change communication (SBCC) in the most challenging environments.  

Founded in 2003, Sayara operates in 39 countries across Eastern Europe, Sub-Saharan Africa, South and Central Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East. Our teams of professionals are based in field offices in Khartoum, Kyiv, and Nairobi, with support from our offices in London, Madrid, Marseille, Virginia, and Warsaw.  

The National Experts will contribute to Sayara’s work in building positive change in societies that most need it. You will be working as part of a welcoming and diverse multicultural team of experienced professionals.

Position Description  

As we update our Roster of National Experts for the year 2023, Sayara International’s Sudan Office is opening the call for National Experts in the following sectors: 

Conflict, stability, and security  

Education 

Gender 

WASH  

Nutrition   

Food security and livelihoods   

Agriculture 

Youth  

Migration 

Public health  

Environment and climate change  

Child protection 

We are looking for results-driven and self-assured National Experts in the thematic areas highlighted above. The National Expert will be responsible for assisting the Research and Programs team in the tasks required and outlined by the Research Manager.



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

  • Duties are likely to change based on the nature of the project for which the National Expert is selected. The tasks generally include:  
  • Providing strategic and technical inputs on project research activities that aim to improve the policy and operational environment.  
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with key actors, including national and local government, private sector, community organizations and representatives, NGOs, donors, etc. 
  • Contributing to research/project design, implementation, learning, and monitoring and evaluation (M&E) through active collaboration with all team members. 
  • Working closely with technical staff and the Research Manager to integrate and manage the use of research tools and materials across the project, as well as supporting information management systems.  
  • Contributing to and providing inputs for workplans, baseline data, tools and indicators for monitoring and evaluation, and project reviews.  
  • Supporting fieldwork, including the development and implementation of surveys, key informant interviews (KIIs), in-depth interviews (IDIs), focus group discussions (FGDs), etc. 
  • Supporting data collection and analysis, and participating in stakeholder and validation meetings. 
  • Documenting lessons learned, evaluating impact, and modifying approaches as needed. 
  • Developing internal organizational sector-related training, and improving tools, guidelines, and standards to enhance program quality. 
  • Writing background documents, reports, briefs, presentations, reviews, landscape analyses, and context reports on projects/sectors, as needed.

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

  1. Minimum Master’s degree in social science, political science, international affairs, development, or in a field relevant to the sector the National Expert is applying for.
  2. 10-15 years of experience in the selected sector in Sudan.
  3. Minimum 6 years of experience working in the context of humanitarian aid or development.
  4. Strong qualitative and quantitative M&E skills.
  5. Experience in conducting research.
  6. Previous experience working with international donors is desirable, particularly FCDO and USAID.
  7. Ability to work without supervision and to consistently meet deadlines.
  8. Ability to work long hours when needed and to take on tasks that may be outside of the express terms of reference.
  9. Commitment to high quality work and integrity in all interactions.
  10. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to engage appropriately with various audiences.
  11. Experience using statistical software such as SPSS or STATA, and qualitative analysis software such as NVivo.
  12. Excellent English-language writing skills (evidence of written work may be requested as a part of the selection process).
