 Duties and responsibilities:

Job Summary: 

Under the overall guidance and direction of the supervisor, the Communication for Development Officer will provide technical support and will assist in the design, formation, management, execution, monitoring, and evaluation of a behavioural change workplan to support the overall project activity implementation in the Assalaya and Ed Daein localities. This includes trainings, studies, research, pre-testing, and the creation of culturally relevant communication materials; building and strengthening strong partnerships with community groups, leaders, and civil society partners; and creating training materials and activities.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Develop, implement, and manage the project's C4D plan for social and behavioural change.
  2. Design and prepare culturally relevant communication materials in line with donor requirements.
  3. Build and enhance strong partnerships with community groups, leaders, media, and other partners to promote participation in social and behavioural change that support the project goals.
  4. Support the design, organization, and implementation of capacity building initiatives, training materials, workshops, and activities to build capacity and competencies in C4D among project staff, community members, partners, and government representatives. 
  5. Work very closely with UNICEF/ C4D focal person through discussing the technical frame for C4D activities implementation, and make sure that the approaches and technical guideline that designed by UNICEF being fully complied and applied.
  6. Work with the child protection SPO and the project manager to consistently reach out the communication unit in UNICEF, to communicate and coordinate for effectively use the unit technical capacity and apply it in the project. 
  7. Lead the creation and implementation of C4D methodology materials, including toolkits, and workshop facilitation guides for all activities and communication platforms, to ensure that content has a behaviour change focus and is of high quality.
  8. Oversee the development and implementation of both qualitative and quantitative research and learning activities for the project, in close coordination with the project manager, MEAL Program Quality unit, to ensure quality and relevance.
  9. Produce and disseminate high-quality communication’s materials including human interest stories, case studies, best practices, photos, and videos to showcase the impact of the project.
  10. Support relevant, high-impact advocacy and outreach activities to influence attitudes and promote behavioural change through house-to-house and mass media campaigns.
  11. Perform additional tasks as requested by the management. 
  12. Work with sectoral leads and Technical Working Groups in developing and disseminating tailored quality IEC materials.
  13. Work with sectoral leads as well as project management team to develop and broadcast necessary messages in local radio stations.
  14. Share regular weekly – monthly report to direct supervisor- and closely coordinate with MEAL and other project team to implement the project in integrated way, and work to deliver quality intervention.

 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

Typical Background, Experience & Requirements:

Nationality

  • A Sudanese national.

Academic Qualifications

  • University degree or equivalent in Social and Behavioral Science, Journalism, Drama, Media, Development, Public Relations, or any other relevant field. 

Work experience 

  • A minimum of three years of progressive experience in the areas of communications, advocacy, social development program planning, and/or related fields with National/International NGOs.
  • The ability to use Adobe Creative Suite applications is an advantage.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision towards achieving preset targets
  • Excellent English/Arabic written and verbal communication skills.
  • Word processing, Power Point Presentation, e-mail, and spreadsheet skills are required.
  • Basic photography and videography skills 
  • Extensive experience working with communities and strong networking skills.
  • Previous experience in planning and implementing awareness-raising campaigns.
  • Excellent training/coaching and capacity-building abilities.
  • Extensive experience working with media outlets (radio stations, TVs, Newspapers).
  • Previous experience or knowledge of script writing/executing for radio broadcasting/ messaging, and drama sketches. 
  • Good knowledge of child protection and public health.
