SEARCH FOR COMMON GROUND is the largest dedicated peacebuilding organization.
Since 1982, we have worked to end violent conflict and to build healthy, safe, and just societies all over the world. Currently, we work in 31 countries across Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and North America.
OUR MISSION is to transform the way the world deals with conflict, away from adversarial approaches and toward cooperative solutions.
WE BELIEVE that conflict is inevitable but violence is not. Conflict is a natural result of human diversity. When we deal with conflict adversarially, it generates polarization and violence. When we collaborate, conflict catalyzes positive change.
OUR VISION is a world where cooperation is the norm—where differences stimulate social progress, rather than precipitate violence.
Background: The Organization:
Search is an international conflict transformation NGO that aims to transform the way individuals, groups, governments, and companies deal with conflict – away from adversarial approaches and towards collaborative solutions. Since 2019, Search Sudan designs and implements multifaceted, culturally appropriate, and conflict-sensitive programs using a diverse range of tools, including media and training, to promote dialogue, increase knowledge and determine a positive shift in behaviors.
The Project:
Search in partnership with the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (CEPPS/IFES), the International Republican Institute (CEPPS/IRI), and the National Democratic Institute (CEPPS/NDI), with associate partners Internews (CEPPS/Internews) are implementing a project that supports the development of Sudan’s governance and electoral institutions; promotes inclusive participation of all voters in the elections; and the revival of political parties, civil society organizations, and media. This three-year program, supported by USAID, targets the entirety of Sudan and has the overall goal of establishing and strengthening democratic institutions, stakeholders, and processes that will administer transitional elections and lay the foundations for a more peaceful, inclusive, and democratic Sudan.
The Assignment:
In support of its ongoing projects which aim to build peace and strengthen social cohesion in Sudan’s periphery states, Search for Common Ground is seeking to recruit a Coalition Building and Networking Consultant. The consultant will lead in conducting a three-day workshop for diverse civil society stakeholders to improve their understanding and knowledge base in building effective and strategic coalitions, networks, and partnerships with other actors. The participants will include Search’s partner staff, women leaders, and other peers in the civil society sector active in human rights, democracy, and electoral systems in South Kordofan, West Kordofan, Blue Nile, Kassala, Gadarif, and Khartoum. The consultant will deliver comprehensive training covering stakeholder and context analysis, and incorporate elements of conflict sensitivity. While discussing coalition-building, the consultant is expected to equip participants with practical tools, knowledge, and approaches that participants can later apply to ensure the formation of strategic and effective networks in their different lines of work.
Geographic Locations:
The Coalition Building and Networking Consultant can be based anywhere in Sudan but must be willing and able to deliver the training session in Khartoum, Sudan. |
