Chemonics International is hiring for a new USAID program that aims to support civil society organizations and independent media to advance key transition priorities. The implementation of this program requires a highly integrated and dynamic team approach to creative, coordinated, and effective program implementation in order to meet the program’s objectives.

The USAID/Office of Transition Initiatives (OTI) Transition to New Sudan (TNS) program aims to support the consolidation of Sudan’s democratic transformation through activities that 1. Strengthen civic engagement; and 2. Expand independent media. The Finance Officer will report directly to the Field Program Director or their designee to achieve TNS objectives.

 Duties and responsibilities:

• Enters and reviews transitions in the internal accounting system, ABACUS, on a daily basis

• Prepares the asset reconciliation at the end of each month to close the month’s books

• Prepares monthly budget projections and wire requests for submission to the home office

• Tracks and monitors the number of grants cleared, disbursed, and closed on a monthly basis

• Prepares weekly grants disbursements sheet for updating the activities database

• Reviews payment packages submitted by TNS project staff and provides feedback to staff as needed to maintain Chemonics financial compliance procedures

• Coordinates with the project bank account to issue SDG and USD check and wire payments, and supports TNS to remain in compliance with the Central Bank of Sudan’s regulations

• Assists the finance manager to process payroll, social/health insurance, and tax payments on a monthly basis

• Assists with the preparation of monthly budget projections and wire requests for submission to the home office

• Contributes to the maintenance of TNS’ electronic and hard copy financial filing system

• Other duties as assigned


 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

• Bachelor’s degree required in business management, accounting, or a related field

• At least three years of relevant bookkeeping, financial management and/or accounting experience is required

• Knowledge of basic accounting and accounting practices is required, as well as general accounting best practices in Sudan

• Fluency in written and oral Arabic required. Strong English-language abilities required
