Health Field Officer

 Background:

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), an impartial, neutral and independent organisation striving to protect
and assist the victims of war and internal violence, has been working in Sudan since 1978. The ICRC is looking for an
enthusiastic and motivated person to fill the position of Health Field Officer in its sub-delegation in Kassala.

Purpose:
The Health Field Officer (FO) provides direct support to the Emergency Department (ED) Specialist team working in Kassala
Teaching Hospital (KTH). This includes day-to-day support, assistance and interpretation during meetings with health
authorities, other humanitarian/health actors, and throughout the course of the team’s assessment and implementation of
programs in the hospital. S/He will be required to interpret and translate key documents and to provide inputs on programs
and ED clinical, structural and organizational management.



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

 Maintains a daily presence in Kassala Teaching Hospital with the ICRC ED Mobile team
 Participates in analysis of and reflection on the overall health situation in the area of responsibility (AoR); contributes to
realistic project proposals in line with the KTH ED project’s priorities;
 Contributes to operational reporting for internal and/or external purposes;
 Support with organization and delivery of meetings including interpretation and translation of documents from AR to EN
and vice versa;
 Supports in identification and assessment of gaps of knowledge among the hospital staff in order to provide needed
trainings in provision of up to standard services.
 Liaise with KAS LOG to carry out logistical tasks linked to medical items related to the project (including raising supply
requests (SR) and using IRIS) and Distribution Tracking Procedures.
 Develops and maintains contact with the local/regional authorities, local/regional National Society branches, etc.;
 Processes and handles general information and individual data accurately, confidentially and in accordance with ICRC
data protection rules and guidelines; (including Medical Activity Database (MAD) data collection and entry)
 Ensures the sustainability of their work and puts in place a system for archiving their work for the purposes of
institutional memory.
 Ensures that any document in relation with EDS program produced by the Health Team is properly filed in the Team
Space
 Assists clinically as required and under the supervision of the ED specialist team.


 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

Required Qualifications and Skills:
 Degree in medicine or nursing, Qualifications in public health or health management a strong asset.
 Registered with the Sudan medical council
 3 to 5 years of total work experience (including 2 years of clinical experience) with minimum 2 years’ experience in the
humanitarian sector and Emergency Medicine with excellent knowledge of the assigned geographic area a strong asset.
 Good connections with local health authorities or groups of interest for the ICRC.
 Fluent written and spoken command of English as well as the local language
 Expert level in computer skills and Microsoft Office
 Ability and readiness to work for extended periods in the field.
 Driving License; Succeeded in ICRC Driving test.
 Skilled in the following competencies: Adapting & Learning, Communication (ability to express and exchange views and
ideas), Analysis & Synthesis.
