 Background:

The Fund Management Officer will taking leading roles within the department and have autonomy and discretion over decisions that are critical to Startups's success. This role is responsible for the supporting and execution of the programs from the pre-program stage and throughout the duration of the program through providing business development support, advisory and building connections between the Founders & investors .



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

  • Taking lead in due diligence on potential investments, working with the senior team to determine whether to invest or pass on opportunities.
  • Spearhead theme development projects on different categories of emerging technology disruption.
  • Actively build relationships and partnerships across the venture ecosystem and early stage businesses, including the participation in industry events.
  • With the support of 249Startups’s operating employees , use capital and relationships to assist in identifying and growing the next generation of companies that utilize cutting edge technology to change the built world.
  • Help build the deal sourcing methodology and engine that will drive 249Startups ability to find attractive investments.
  • Represent 249Startups as the first point of contact in meetings with founders and outside stakeholders in potential investments.
  • Represent 249Startups internally with 249Startups colleagues; will work collaboratively with the other 249Startups teams to source deals, validate investment opportunities, and enhance investment outcomes.
  • Build strong relationships with 249Startups’s portfolio companies, helping them grow their businesses both with 249Startups counterparties and in the market more broadly.
  • Ongoing management of portfolio companies and working with 249Startups business team on investment and fund reporting requirements.
  • Implementing a fund's investment strategy and managing its investment activities.
  • Manage analysis, conduct research, and make important investment decisions.

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

Qualifications & Experience:

  • University degree in finance, Engineering or business related.
  • 3+ years of relevant experience, including time in either investment banking, principal investing, accounting or management consulting.
  •  Experienced in conducting proprietary industry and company research and due diligence, evaluating transaction opportunities, performing financial and valuation analysis, and producing “startup-ready” investment materials;
  •  Some demonstrated interest in the technology sector.

 Skills/ Abilities:

  • An entrepreneurial spirit, both for vetting new companies, and for building something themselves.
  • Thrives in an a political environment with a high degree of autonomy.
  • The above notwithstanding, a dynamic and engaged team player with strong interpersonal capabilities, who can work well with external (Investors, founders) and internal (249Startups) teams.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills;
  • A keen eye for detail.
  • Strong work ethic and a willingness to wear multiple hats.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.

  • High flexibility in working hours.  Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
