OVCI started its activity in Sudan in 1983 and nowadays runs two polyvalent rehabilitation centers in partnership with Usratuna Sudanese Association for Disabled Children (USADC). Opened in 2008, the first centre is located in Arda street and includes physiotherapy and speech therapy. The second one, inaugurated in 2010, lies in the area of Dar El Salaam (Umbedda), block 5. Services provided are: community-based inclusive development (CBID) home visits, physiotherapy, speech therapy and a pediatric and maternal clinic which is managed as a model of Family Medicine.


Vacancy details

OVCI is looking for a medical doctor that will offer his/her services in the clinic of Dar El Salaam (Umbedda, block 5) 5 days a week and will guarantee the follow up of the first assessments for both Arda and Dar El Salaam Centre  1 day per week and will coordinate and support all the other health professionals working in the Centre.


 Duties and responsibilities:

The medical doctor will be responsible for the supervision of the clinic and rehabilitation outreach in the Usratuna Centre of Dar El Salaam and, partly, Omdurman. He/she will also need to coordinate with OVCI staff for the project activities that involves his medical expertise and will report to the OVCI project manager. Among his/her main responsibilities he/she will be in charge for:

  • Carrying out first assessments for the patients of the rehabilitation Centre held in Dar El Salaam Centre and Omdurman;
  • Carrying out or support any other medical assessment;
  • Coordinating, implementing and monitoring the activities in the clinic/dispensary in DES (including recollection of data and edition of monthly reports both for the Project Manager and Local Authorities.)
  • Coordinating and monitoring the activities of the other health professionals (nutritionist, midwives, HIV counsellor) in the Centre and in the surrounding of Dar El Salam Area.
  • Preparing referral letters as needed;
  • Accompanying the physiotherapy team in the weekly home visits when necessary;
  • Providing medical consultancies, medicines and follow up visits for CBID patients;
  • Liaising with the competent government and private institutions as per the project and Centre needs and with previous authorisation of the Project Manager (e.g. to Ministries, authorities, associations, schools, universities, drug companies etc.)
  • Contacting suitable organisations/institutes to organise workshops/awareness meetings for the clinic’s beneficiaries (pregnant women and children) or facilitate directly health campaigns in the Centre and in outreach;
  • Following-up the purchase and set up of equipment, furniture and provision of medicines and milk for the Centre (even through procurement procedures);
  • Reporting regularly to the indicated line manager;



 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

  • At least 12 months of working experience in a similar position.
  • At least 3 month working with children.
  • Knowledge of the main pathologies treated at the centre: Down syndrome, Children with mild-mode rate mental delay, Hearing impairments with hearing aids, Speech delay, Cerebral palsy, Spina bifida, Neuro Muscular Disorders.
  • Fluency in English and Arabic
  • Knowledge of word and excel programs.



Compensation: Monthly Gross Salary: 803 EURO
