 Background:

Global Partners Governance works with parliaments, governments and political parties around the world to promote representative politics and effective governance. Our work directly supports politicians and staff and has included the delivery of projects in Africa, the Middle East and Central Asia.

 

GPG is setting up an office in Khartoum to deliver a programme funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and British Council Sudan to support Sudan’s transition to democracy.  This support includes working closely with key stakeholders across the political landscape in the establishment of a transitional legislative council and its effective function, as well as supporting government ministries in delivering their priorities for the transition.



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

Based in Khartoum, the Project Manager will report to Country Director for Sudan. The Projects Manager will:

 

  • Manage the implementation of project activities. This includes managing and updating the overall work plan, undertaking financial management of projects, monitoring and evaluation, and regular reporting to funders.
  • Assesses and analyses the political developments in Sudan and makes recommendations for the update and revision of project activities as part of implementing a politically agile programming approach;
  • Ensures activities are implemented in accordance to the workplan, and updates wokplan based on an understanding of the contextual challenges and opportunities
  • Brief and liaise with our project specialists and consultants to maximise their contribution to project activities. Liaise with other GPG projects managers on synergies between our existing projects.
  • Develops and maintains of a network of key actors and stakeholders in Sudan
  • Contributes to identifying opportunities to grow and extend GPG’s work, including through partnerships with new organisations and funders.
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of the political developments in Sudan and carry out research in support of projects.

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

  • Previous project management experience, preferably in an international and/or political context, including planning, programme implementation, financial management and donor relations. 
  • Solid knowledge and understanding of monitoring and evaluation approaches for governance projects and/or adaptive management approaches.
  • Fluent English language skills are a core requirement of the role, with native or near native proficiency including excellent writing skills. Fluent Arabic language skills are also required for this role.   
    Please note: a written translation and spoken interpreting task may be part of the interview process for this post. 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills: ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders including senior politicians and to work collaboratively as part of a team. 
  • Knowledge of Sudan politics, previous professional experience in the Middle East and/or North Africa preferred. 
  • Flexibility and ability to adapt to changing work needs and political environment.  
  • University degree in in political science, international law, international development, peace and development studies or related subject; postgraduate degree preferable. 
  • Experience with UK/EU/US funded projects would be an asset.
  • Must have the right to work full time in Sudan

Terms and Conditions

  • Working hours: full time; 37.5 hours per week (Sun-Thurs)
