 Background:

Cooperazione Internazionale (COOPI) is an international Italian NGO established in 1965. Since its establishment, COOPI has been undertaking activities to help and empower the poor and needy in different countries. COOPI Sudan started its operation in 2004 and has been primarily implementing emergency, relief and early recovery programs in water hygiene and sanitation, food security and livelihood, nutrition and protection sectors.

COOPI is currently implementing several projects in East Sudan (Kassala and Gedaref States) supporting Refugees and Host communities mainly in the WASH sector.

 

Under the framework of on-going projects, COOPI is looking for qualified and competent WASH and public health Expert



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

Duties and responsibilities

  • Develop, manage and implement all activities related to the realization of water infrastructure construction and maintenance, the promotion of correct hygienic practices;
  • Support the procurement and distribution of hygiene kits;
  • Support the procurement of PPE materials in order to implement the activities in compliance with the regulations about COVID – 19;
  • Support the procurement of water analysis kits;
  • Supervise analysis and monitoring of water quality at distribution points and at household level;
  • Collect data related to the water analysis on the field and at laboratory level;
  • Support the procurement and distribution of water treatment and purification kits for domestic use;
  • Conduct training to refugees and host communities on water treatment and purification kits;
  • Conduct information and training sessions for the prevention of pathologies related to water contamination and incorrect or absent sanitation practices;
  • Supervise the conduction of pest control campaigns;
  • Oversee all the activities implementation, in particular:
  • Oversee and implement field level project activities related to water supply, hygiene and sanitation activities mainly on the soft component of WASH;
  • Follow up progress and take timely action to prevent delays and/or cost overruns;
  • Provide information to the Project Manager and Field Coordinator to verify that works under supervision are consistent with the project technical specifications and inform promptly of eventual deviations;
  • Contribute to the drafting of ToR, guidelines, agenda and other strategic documents related to the following activities: 1) Rehabilitation of Water supply schemes; 2) Conduct pre and post KAP survey; 3) Local hygiene promoter (LHP) training; 4) Mass hygiene and sanitation campaign; 5) Organize field visits to monitor the activities progress; 6) Follow up of contractors services delivery and confirm of expected deliverables.
  • Inform the Project Manager and Field Coordinator of weekly tasks progress;
  • Collect weekly activity reports and forward them to the Project Manager and Field Coordinator;
  • Draft and review activities, meetings and field visits report and share them with the Project Manager and Field Coordinator;
  • Attend cluster and other project related meetings;
  • Contribute to the drafting and follow up of TAs and MoUs;
  • Manage the interactions with contractors;
  • When needed, give translation services during trainings and workshops and interpret for expatriate staff to facilitate discussions and relations with communities;
  • Collect and merge information at locality and state level and share it with the PM/APM;
  • Perform duties as requested by the Project Manager and Field Coordinator;
  • Inform the PM/APM of weekly tasks progress;
  • Collect weekly activity reports and forward them to the PM/APM;
  • Draft and review activities, meetings and field visits report and share them with the Project Manager and Field Coordinator;
  • When needed, participate in the drafting and reviewing of: 1) Bill of Quantities/List of materials; 2) Tender documents; 3) BID Analysis; 4) Contracts;

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

Qualification and Experience

  • Master’s Degree in the chemical, biological, WASH or medical field;
  • Additional training courses specific to Program Management and Humanitarian Aid professional certifications, strongly preferred;
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant working experience in International NGOs in emergency contexts.
  • Strong computer literacy, organizational, planning, and report writing skills;
  • Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English language;
  • Excellent knowledge of written and spoken Arabic language;
  • Knowledge of Tigray culture is considered as an asset.
