The Sudanese Red Crescent Society (SRCS) is a lead National society in providing quality humanitarian work, was established in 1956. (SRCS) was accepted into the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. (SRCS) a member of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC). The SRCS operates across the Sudan with 18 branches, more than 75 units and an active volunteer base of about 35,000.

The mission of (SRCS)  is to Provide humanitarian aid services towards building secure and capable urban and rural communities through the transition to resilience, recovery, rehabilitation  and development, in compliance with International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement Principles and guidelines and in conformity with international human rights, through a sustainable development approach where environment conservation and rationalized use of natural resources are considered top priorities to help guarantee a safe global environment for future generations.

SRCS operates

In West Darfur State health services have been under resourced, qualified staff were scarced to be part of minimizing the mass internal displacement of people. NGOs, UN, and other agencies have made massive efforts to address the health needs of the IDPs and to some extent to the host populations.

According to the National program of the Federal Ministry of Health to reduce the malnutrition diseases especially among under five years, where there were many interventions, studies and surveys to reduce malnutrition diseases.

West Darfur state is prone to emergencies including outbreaks of diseases, flooding and conflicts. WD has one of the highest under-five mortality rates of 91.4 per 1000 live births compared with the national average of 52 per 1000 live births (MICS 2014).
Health services are not well developed anywhere even before the war, and have been deteriorated in the long conflict period, affecting remote rural areas especially in nomad settlement areas.

In this project SRCS with the support of UNICEF will provide health and nutrition services in some of the facilities in El-Geneina, Sirba and Habila locality in collaboration with UNICEF and Ministry of Health at both levels (State and Federal) and the other line ministries.

Job purpose

To contribute to the efficient and effective implementation of Nutrition activities of the project in the targeted locations in West Darfur State.

 



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

The Health Coordinator will perform the following roles and responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the nutrition services at the clinic and community levels.
  • Prepare detailed work plan and budget plan for nutrition activities and ensure implementation of planned activities according to the work plan adhering to the budget according to standards and oversee program spending per budgets and pipelines.
  • Lead the development of a referral mechanism and communication strategies for critical cases referrals between SRCS nutrition facilities and SMOH health facilities.
  • Organize and follow-up on all other procurements needed for the project.
  • Assess the training needs of nutrition staff; develop a training program to meet these needs; conduct nutrition training for project nutrition staff and MOH counterparts implementing nutrition programs, focusing on all aspects of community-based management of acute malnutrition (CMAM), IYCF and health with the support of the Health and Nutrition Supervisors at HQ level.
  • Represent Sudanese Red Crescent Society (SRCS) in Nutrition coordination meetings at West Darfur State with the government bodies, international agencies, other NGOs and other stakeholders.
  • Create and maintain smooth & open collaborative relationship between SRCS and Government and other local stakeholders
  • Ensure strong linkage of nutrition components with other components of the project such as Health, WASH and disaster prevention and preparedness.
  • Participate in training and mentoring of nutrition and other staff members in response to capacity building needs.
  • Follow up of project implementation to review progress towards objectives through organizing regular review meetings, update and experience sharing meeting among staffs.
  • Ensure proper functioning regular assessment, monitoring and evaluation of the program against its objectives and expected results and SRCS’s Program Framework. And conduct critical monitoring of CMAM and IYCF programs, and identify areas of concern. Submit workable solutions for identified challenges.
  • Plan and conduct nutritional assessments and surveys following the nationally approved survey protocol and feed assessments results
  • Ensure best practices and lesson learnt are documented.
  • Support to establish and maintain reporting systems and data flow mechanisms and prepare and provide regular monthly progress reports in coordination with the state program coordinator.

 

 


 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor in nutrition, Master degree or advanced education.
  • Good knowledge of English, both oral and written.
  • At least 5 years working in the Nutrition field during emergency situation in the humanitarian settings.
  • The following experience would be highly advisable:
  • Proper monitoring and evaluation skills for nutrition activities.
  • Data collection & project reporting.
  • Program Management 
  • Representation and Coordination skills.
  • Ability to communicate technical issues effectively and persuasively
  • Skills in conducting a community assessment and incorporating data into the nutrition services plan Experience in providing direct nutrition services to families, mothers, and children.
