Alight came to Sudan in 2004 as one of the first humanitarian responders to the emergency needs of some 500,000 war-affected IDPs and host populations in the Tulus and Gereida corridors in South Darfur. In 2014, Alight expanded services its reach to include East Darfur. Today, Alight serves displaced populations and host communities in Kassala, Gedaref, West Kordofan, and East and South Darfur states. Alight provides lifesaving humanitarian action, recovery, and development services in these five states, with a country office based in Khartoum.

Field offices in Kassala, Gedaref, Nyala, El Daein,serve as the key state hubs for program delivery. Alight’s staff is more than 99 percent Sudanese, with nearly 800 full-time staff joined by over 400 incentive and community health and protection workers in delivering lifesaving programs and durable solutions in Sudan.

Alight is registered in Sudan and works closely with Federal and State Line Ministries to carry out its humanitarian and development mandates.

 Background:

COUNTRY PROGRAM MISSION :

 

The ALIGHT (ARC previously) Sudan Program started in 2004 in response to the emergency needs of some 500,000 war-affected IDPs and host populations in the Tulus and Gereida corridors in South Darfur. In 2014, ARC expanded services into underserved villages in the East Darfur.  The overall aim of the program is to improve the well-being of the target populations by addressing their immediate humanitarian needs and contributing to long-term community stabilization.

 

With technical and operational backstopping support from the Country Office in Khartoum, the field offices in Nyala, Ed Daein, Kassala and Gedaref along with sub-offices in Gereida and Adila, ALIGHT staff support the delivery of primary health care services in 27 health facilities in addition to reaching out with mobile clinic services to 6 remote communities. Water provision and sanitation services, including the construction / rehabilitation of boreholes, water yards, household and institutional latrines and hygiene promotion messages, are also delivered in over 70 conflict-affected communities. A gradually growing component of food security and livelihoods targeting resettling IDPs and hosting populations with agricultural seeds, tools and extension services to grow their own food, including training and supporting of employable skills to these marginalized communities.

 

With an annual budget of close to $20m, the Sudan Program has 1000+ staff, most of them national staff and volunteers and seconded from the line Ministries of the Sudan government spread over various localities in Gedaref, Kassala, East and South Darfur including the ALIGHT Sudan office in Khartoum.

 

 

 



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

  • Setup IT systems and deal with technical queries on operating systems & software packages as well as problems related to computers or information technology.
  • Manage and administer the LANs installed in Sudan offices and ensure that all systems are functional and available – while minimizing downtime.
  • Ensure internet connectivity is maintained, either through VSAT, broadband landline connections, wireless networks, and any other means.
  • Ensure that all software and hardware installed are functional and as per ARC standard.
  • Ensure that the antivirus software is installed and security patches are applied on all machines & updated regularly.
  • Induct and train new staff in ALIGHT computer systems, and other required applications.
  • Provide first level support to hardware/software maintenance & upgrades.
  • Be responsible for taking Back-ups of all ALIGHT computers to keep the data safe in external hard drive.
  • Update inventory of all IT equipment. Share the updated IT asset list with the management on quarterly basis.
  • Available to provide daily support to ALIGHT Sudan offices through presence, email and phone.
  • Provide a timely report to management on an agreed schedule.
  • Prepare and follow-up with Internet payment.

 

 


 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

  • University degree in Information technology and/or professional training in IT.
  • At least 1 years’ experience in IT with NGOs or UN agencies
  • Proven competence in development and implementation of computerized systems (LAN & WANs).
  • Effective communication skills/good working knowledge in English – verbally and in writing.
  • Strong analytical skills, demonstrate logical thinking through consideration of options before deciding on a course of action
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
