Introduction to the Country Office:

Norwegian church Aid is in Sudan since 1972 and works in the fields of relief, rehabilitation, and development, and works through national partners.
NCA’s Country Office is currently in Port Sudan. It has a Field Office in Al-Gadarif, Al-Gadarif State, where its projects activities encompass GBV, Climate Resilient WASH, Climate Smart Economic Empowerment, and Health. As well, its projects activities in Kosti, White Nile State are implemented by the national partners

 Background:

In early November 2020, the Ethiopia region was affected by incidents of armed conflicts due to the military and political confrontation between federal and regional forces in Tigray region. From December 2020 and June 2021, 68,326 Ethiopian refugees (61% male, 39% female, 33% children, 62 adult and 5% Elderly) have fled their country and are entering Sudan through Kassala, Gedaref, and Blue Nile states 3. Tunaybah camp where NCA has its operation has received 19, 466 people, as of 30 June 2021.

Psychosocial support and GBV case management services are limited. Safety and dignity are concerns of women and girls. There are no safe spaces for women and girls to ensure their privacy and provide them a space to support one another. NCA aims to increase quality of services to women and girls in Eastern Sudan, we seek to establish a Women-Friendly Space providing multisectoral response including health promotion, psychosocial support, legal support and referrals, medical referrals and effective referrals to security services. NCA will collaborate and work with the Health Sector, “Combating Violence Against Women and Girls Unit” in The Federal Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs and Ministry of Health to strengthen the services to host and refugee communities. Survivors and women and girls living with or having experienced violence may need medical, mental health and legal services. NCA will establish a 24 hours per day, 7 days per week referral system to facilitate the transportation and communication from the community to the Women-Friendly Space.



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

  1. Work with key stakeholders to develop interventions aimed at strengthening women’s leadership in the community.
  2. Advice and support project partners, CoR, and national organizations in the development and implementation of their gender equality action plans.
  3. Work with national counterparts in strategic capacity-building initiatives for women leaders
  4. Develop strategic integration of women empowerment activities with WGSS intervention.
  5. Build the capacity of volunteers in identification and strengthen women leadership skills among host and refugees communities.
  6. Build strategic partnerships and advocate for gender and women empowerment issues covered through the projects in coordination with national and international organizations including UN agencies.
  7. Work with community members include (Men, Boys, religious leaders, community leaders) by developing and supporting community initiatives aiming to empower women and build leadership skills
  8. Closely work with case management, community outreach, ASRHR team, and ensure gender equality and equity are well-considered.
  9. Responsible for submitting weekly, monthly, and any other project-related report

Reporting

Provide monthly reports for case management statistics and GBV activities & WGSS


 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

  1. University degree in Social Science, Gender and/or at least 3 years relevant area work experience.
  2. Experience working with Refugees and vulnerable communities in camp and non-camp areas.
  3. Expertise in gender equality issues particularly relating to women in decision-making/ leadership
  4. Experience in programme/project management
  5. Experience with participatory fieldwork, reporting, and monitoring of results
  6. Knowledge of humanitarian principles, code of conduct, and GBV best practices.
  7. Speaks English and Arabic fluently, Tigray is an added advantage.
